Description
Privately owned since 1809, the Ochsenfurter Kauzen-Bräu stands for traditional Franconian brewing culture. The brewery was not always called Kauzen Bräu. It was not until 1974 that the Ochsenfurt monastery brewery was renamed the Kauzen Brewery.

--- Beer merged from original tick of Käuzle Urhell on 01 Feb 2019 at 22:53 - Score: 5. Original review text: Clearing the german stash, dull, moldy, basement, malty, sweet, thin, weak biscuitmaltiness, corn, sugar, a bit stale, nah not bad not great

Fläschla: Clear, golden, small and quickly vanishing white head, sweetish grainy and worty nose, some uncertain bitterness underneath; mild sweetish flavour, sticky MF, otherwise light bodied; short - fortunately - sweetish finish, followed by a molecular bitterness. Hardly drinkable...

Crystal clear coloured golden coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall pure white head that fades relatively quickly. Aroma of grass and subdued grainy, pure caster sugar sweetness with a touch of cereal as well - fairly mild throughout. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal character at first with a deep malty and grain flavour and a lot of rice and cereal notes with some sweetness and a bigger dose of unfinished yeast and bread. Aftertaste shows the grain and rice malt flavours with a lot of funk and deep bitterness with a strong and pungent alcohol and bready malts throughout with some cereal towards the end and a touch of sweetness. Overall, a pretty standard lager with more of a malty bite than anything else, but nothing interesting or special here - just mild and grainy throughout. I sampled this 50 cL can purchased from the Costco Advent Calendar, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 29-September-2018 for US$59,99/24 pack/days, sampled on the 10th Day of December, 2018 at my hotel here in Inner Harbour Baltimore, Maryland.

16 ounce can from the Advent Calendar. Pours a clear orange color with a small white head. A big clear malty nose. Sweet, toast, light bread, a bit of oranges. Pretty nice. Round husky flavors.

From the Advent Calendar: pours fizzy yellow lager. Aroma is herby, bready, vegetables. I can see why this was demoted from Helles to Pale Lager. Dirty Eurolager taste. Low bitterness. Sort of sweet. Easy to chug, but that is about it.

500 ml can from the Advent calendar. Aroma is doughy, bready malts, grassy. Pours clear deep golden with a two finger long-lasting bone-white head; leaves curtains of lace. Taste is moderately sweet with no bitterness; slightly drying in the finish. Somewhat watery and undercarbonated. Not the most exciting beer in world, but it's not horrible.

Bottle from the Kalea x-mas calendar. Golden, offwhite low head. Hayish, light earthy herbal nose. Medium body, dry, sour malt, herbal bitter hops, unbalanced, not a pleasant drink.
