About
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

Bottle at Berlin Zoo. Clear, a bit pale golden beer with a white head. Grainy aroma with hops as well. Grainy and fruity flavor with a distinct bitterness. Bitter finish as well. Medium body. A bit anonymous, but with a nice bitterness, and it got the job done, it was a hot day and I was thirsty. (070805)

On tap at Berliner Bierfestival. It looks almost clear, the green beer-mix, and it’s topped by a white head with a green hue. It smells sweet, with something reminiscent of toilet cleaner or dishwashing water. Sweetish and fruity flavor, but not in a too positive way, I just couldn’t make myself finish it. Sticky, medium mouthfeel, and a sweet and fruity finish. Not too good there either, I had to find another beer immediately. Really a strange experience. Rating: 2-3-2-2-5-1.4. 070803

On tap at Berliner Bierfestival. A bit unclear, reddish fluid with a pink head. Raspberry and some sourness in the aroma and flavor. It is quite sweet and slightly sticky in the mouth, due to the raspberry syrup. Medium body. Ok, so the syrup takes the edge of the sourness, but It’s not good. Rating: 3-3-3-2-6-1.7. 070803

11.1 oz bottle - Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a thin white head. It has a nice sour citrus aroma. The flavor is also mainly sour citrus with some sweet, malty wheat backing. It’s light, crisp and has substantial carbonation. It’s nothing to get excited about, but it’s interesting and very refreshing.
