Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

Bottled. A golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of elderberry flowers and cardboard. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of straw and cardboard, leading to a dry bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

(6/18/08) Draught at Bräustübl in Berlin. Listed as "Bockbier". Clear, maybe a tad hazy, golden with a big white head. Aroma of malt and some caramel. Very sweet flavor with malt, sugariness, some caramel and maybe some very faint hints of alcohol. Medium-bodied. A bit too sweet but still an OK bock.

(6/18/08) Draught at Bräustübl in Berlin. Not exactly "schwarz" in color, more like deep amber-brown, with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, maybe a bit of molasses. Sweetish flavor with roastiness, dark bread hints and later some light bitterness. Medium-bodied. Not bad.

Re-rate 2/15: Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks troubles. 5%. As Berliner Bürgerbrau Premium Pils. Clear golden. Aroma of graininess, hay and mild hoppy hints. Slightly grainy flavor with light maltiness and a bitterish finish, slightly hoppy. Quite light-bodied. Drinkable but a lot better when fresh on draught. Score is not calculated. 4/3/5/3/10=2.5

Test vom 31.7.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,11,10,11,11,11

Tap at the brewery, 50cl mug Pors amber with a thick white head. Aroma is hoppy and yeasty (earthly) Taste of wheat and malt with caramel / honey. Has the light metalic pilsner taste. Nothing great.
