Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

On draught (Zapfhahn, Berlin Ostbahnhof): Amber coloured, off-white to brownish head; sweet-malty nose with a stronger alcoholic touch, a bit brandy-like, traces of toasted malt in the aroma; sweet-malty flavour, medium bodied; becomes dryer towards the end, alcohol-burn again, faint bitterness in the aftertaste. Too alcoholic, not very well balanced or rounded.................

Bottled. Yellow-white with some hazyness. Medium white head. Sour, lime-like aroma with some barnyard-notes. Flavor is acidic and wheaty with green apples. Astringent in the mouth. Although it feels refreshing, this is not my kind of beer. Rating. 4-3-4-3-10-2.4. 051210

Bottle. An unclear, yellowish golden beer a finger-thick white head. The aroma is lemony and fruity sour with some malty sourness. Medium to thin on the palate, dry and tart. Fruity and citrusy flavor with some pale malts. Fruity finish. A quite nice and quenching one, but not superb in any way. 110827

A toxic green beer with a light green head. The aroma is artificial with notes of marzipan and pistachio. The flavor is very sweet and very artificial again with strong notes of marzipan and some notes of pistachio, and the body is even thin. The end is dry with just a hint of wheat, but the artificial sweetness still lingers on the lips.
