Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

Bottle. Pale lime green color. Floral white berries aroma. Sweet and sour flavor, a bit sugary, with apple, lemon, floral notes and white berries. Just too sugary to be a pleasant summer drink.

Bottle. Orange pink color. Rhubarb dominating the aroma. Sweet flavor with Some Apple sourness and rhubarb. Soft floral notes. A bit too sweet to be really thirst quenching, but the rhubarb flavors are pleasant.

Tap at the Berlin Zoo. Bright gold with lace, clear. Poured quite badly. Ok nose, malty, bread, light spicy hops. Decent malty flavor, not overly sweet, light spicy hops with an ok bitterness. Very satisfying in the hot sun, although not really interesting. No real problems either.

Can gratis from Beer Ritz. It pours clear yellow with a decent white head. The aroma is sweet doughy white bread, biscuit, cereal, gooseberry, grass and spice. The taste is crisp, firmly dry, lick of bitterness, biscuit, grassy, slightly herbal, earthy, gooseberry crumble, citrus peel and spice with a drying finish. Average body and moderate carbonation. Pretty decent tbh. Quenching in this damn summer heat.

While in Berlin have a Berlin beer, especially if it is named Berliner. Purchased at a department store (?) and brought back to sample. I’m putting one of the glasses provided in the room to use, not exactly a Pilsner glass. A firm pour gives a heavy head of pure white foam on top of a lemon-yellow body. The nose is no surprise, grain and lightly citrus. More of the same with the taste. Straw, water, hops and a fair bitterness. What more to say? It’s a Pilsner.

500ml bottle. Clear, amber colour with small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Sweet-ish malty aroma with a touch of honey and straw. Taste is minimally dry and metallic hoppy, minimally sweet, strawy pale malty, a cautious touch of honey. Well controlled sweetness, not overly aromatic though.

The taste of woodruff and tartness is a little over the top
