Description
In 1890 the Companhia União Fabril Portuense das Fábricas de Cerveja e Bebidas Refrigerantes (CUFP) was founded in Porto. In 1926 Super Bock beer was introduced and received a trademark in 1927. In 1975, after the Carnation Revolution in 1974, the Portuguese brewing industry was nationalised. There followed a period of restructuring of the sector. In 1977 CUFP was transformed into Unicer - União Cervejeira E.P. The 1980s marked the change of Unicer E.P. to Unicer S.A., with the company moving from the public to the private sector. In 2017 Unicer became the Super Bock Group.

Bottled. Deep golden, minimal head. Restrained fruity nose. Sweet and fruity with bold, clumsy mouthfeel. Motes of paper and orange. Sweet and rather lifeless beer in fancy bottle.

Bottled Clear golden, small head. Cardboardy nose. Sweet and fruity. Buttery with rounded mouthfeel, but the sticky sweetness overwhelms. Finishes phenolic and unpleasant.

Bottle, 4.0%. Distinct lime aroma. Hazy yellow colour, small white head. The flavour has some lime, thin lager aftertaste. Seems like artificial sweetener, definitely bad tasting.

Draught at República da Cerveja, Lisbon. Lightly hazy golden, creamy head. Buttery malty nose. Medium sweet and fairly light bodied. Well rounded with a hard core. Hops are noted, but malt is driving it. Finishes with low bitterness. A well made, nicely drinkable beer. Spring must come late to Lisbon...

Draught at República da Cerveja, Lisbon. Cloudy pale yellow, brief head. Evident aroma of estery banana and cloves. Dryish and light bodied. Dominated by mashed banana, but with some note of paper. A refreshing warm weather beer.

330ml Bottle - Pale golden in colour. Grainy aroma with a hint of citrus. Sweetish malty taste with a twist of lemon. Reasonably refreshing but does not taste its strength.

A mainstay in most Portugues bars but this stuff is just plain bad, not to mention will give you the worse gas ever!

[330ml bottle at the Purple Turtle, Reading] Golden, moderate head, soft carbonation. Some malt, but dominated by a dirty bitter metallic finish. Complete lack of depth is surprising considering the high ABV. Nothing "Super" about this - it tastes like the sort of low-grade beer which gives you a hangover after only a few bottles. Avoid.

Bottle (thanks mom!). Clear golden with a medium, slowly-diminishing, white head. Aroma has some malt, corn, notes of hops and maybe grass. Sweetish flavor with some graininess, slightly sugary with a dry metallic finish. Nothing good but also not so horrible.

Appearance: Very dark brown, almost black. Dark head, not too much of it, though. Aroma: Roasted, burnt. Malt, some chocolate. Taste: Malty, a bit burnt. Bit boring, not much to it. Slightly bitter. Info: 330ml bottle, 16/4-2007
