Description
In 1890 the Companhia União Fabril Portuense das Fábricas de Cerveja e Bebidas Refrigerantes (CUFP) was founded in Porto. In 1926 Super Bock beer was introduced and received a trademark in 1927. In 1975, after the Carnation Revolution in 1974, the Portuguese brewing industry was nationalised. There followed a period of restructuring of the sector. In 1977 CUFP was transformed into Unicer - União Cervejeira E.P. The 1980s marked the change of Unicer E.P. to Unicer S.A., with the company moving from the public to the private sector. In 2017 Unicer became the Super Bock Group.

330 ml bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). ABV is 6.4%. Clear amber colour, large and lasting off-white head. Fruity and flowery hops in the aroma, some sugary notes too. The flavour is malty sweet and sugary, notes of caramel. Low bitterness. I drank the beer at cellar temperature +, it will probably taste better when cold.

Small to medium pink head, fine; cardinal-red beer. Fruitsweets, cassis, rather artificial & syrupy nose. Fruitbonbons, watered fruitsyrup, currant-y, raspberry-y. Anything the "beery" part might had fades away quickly, leaving a vague syrup aftertaste. Very light, despite the syrup. Well; let’s say it’s good to know these atrocities are commited elsewhere too.

Good just off-white head, fed by heavily carbonated clear golden beer. Chaff, graindust, bit gassy nose. Digging deeper, I get adjuncts (maize, probably), and a bit of cheap alcohol. Adjuncts to the fore in the taste: stale wet cornflakes, sweet, and a touch of sourish CO². There’s your cerveja. Ugh. Sticky, cloying sweetness; CO² tittilation. Terrible lager. Keep to the vinho verde or Douro Tinto.

Golden yelow, large head. Hoppy nose. Quite hoppy flavours, well-balanced, malty background. I quite enjoyed this one.

Pours a black colour with just a little bit of brown head. A slightly sweet smell, although not particularly strong. The taste has initial notes of coffee followed by some bitter, slightly sour notes and then a sweet, malty aftertaste. It’s not particularly full of flavour, considering the style, but it’s still quite pleasant. I could definitely drink it all night.

Sample from 33 cL bottle. Pours clear, slight green. Aroma is sour and apple. Flavour is sweet apple, without the sourness (artificially sweetner?). Finish is sweet and slight bitter

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Pours almost clear with a vague hue of green and a white, lacing head. Sweetish indefinable aroma. Light in body, quite sweet and extremely carbonated while the apple flavours are almost nonexistent. Subdued bitterness. A very commercial cider. 240407

Bottled. A pale light green cider with a fast disappearing white head. The aroma is of artificial sweetener and artificial apples. The flavor is sweet with artificial apple notes, leading to a dry end with a slight touch of wood.
