Description

Originally the Sailerbrauerei was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1544. After a long history 1967 is considered to be the decisive point in the history of the brewery. In that year the master brewer Gerd Borges and his then wife Gertrud, née. Sailer took over the management of the brewery and made the brewery a great success. After 36 years Borges decided to sell the enterprise. Since 2003 Sailerbräu and the brand Altenmünster Brauer Biere became through the Allgäuer Brauhaus part of the Radeberger Gruppe.

Of course I bought it for the ceramic bottle with Santa on it...duh! And actually, the bottle is much more interesting than the beer contained within it - malty, fruity, bock-ish qualities, but although the flavor is good, it is a little on the thin side, as is the body and finish - some hops balance out the mixture of caramel sweetness - nothing to celebrate about, and the price is totally unjustified, even for the bottle without the beer.

Slightly hazy golden colour body with a thin white head. Very pleasant aroma of citrus and green apples, German hops and a bit of metal. Light-bodied; Great balance, strong hop showing for the style and a subtle sweet taste. Aftertaste mild and clean. A better beer than I was expecting-try it if you can find it! I bought this 330 mL swing-top bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and sampled it on 14-November-2003.

Outstanding smoke aroma dominated this beer. Appearance wa light brown, nothing interesting. Flavor of a pils with liquid smoke added. Unpleasant taste. If I only wanted to smell my beer this would be a good choice.

Golden to light amber color, hazy. Typical spicy aroma, light. Original taste, very good mix of a quite aggressive German wheat beer with a nice smokey taste (delicate), contuinueing in the final.

Re-Rate: Malt an licorice aroma. Red oak, rocky head. Nicely balanced. Some fruit noticeable on second sip. A bit watery, but has a nice aftertaste.

Re-rateFresh citrus aroma. Looks like a wit. Not very much taste - banana and lemony light, sweetish mild. Fizzy mouthfeel - refreshing but not remarkable otherwise.

Some clove, but mostly estery/yeasty sourness in arome. Murky brown. Bready banana taste, a bit too light body. Ok, but not really impressive.

An amber beer with a very nice head. The aroma is very pleasent with notes of fruit and malt. The flavor though is a little flat but with a good/nice sweetness and ending in a slight bitterness. It’s a fine beer, but a little too "light" for my taste.

I am a big fan of the caps on these beers. However the beer itself left much to be desired. Kind of bland and watery, wheaty beer. I just can''t get into these Bavarian-type Lagers.
