Description
Crux is a crossroads, an intersection, the heart of something. In brewing it's that pivotal point where fermentation happens and anticipation mounts.
We’re Crux Fermentation Project— housed in a former AAMCO Transmission Plant and inspired by our location right in the heart of Bend, Oregon. Our brewery is a one-of-a-kind, built for non-traditional brewing methods like decoction mashing, open fermentation and barrel aging, and for leveraging the limitless possibilities that wild yeast strains and experimental hops present.

Crisp copper coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of grapefruit, alcohol, oak, dry malt, resin and a good deal of cognac. Medium-bodied; Strong resinous, piney and grapefruit flavour with a good dose of malt and even more alcohol - strong, pungent and very warming. Aftertaste shows of some older hops with less alpha acids, a good deal of pine and light apricot fruits and a heavy alcohol note throughout. Overall, a good Imperial IPA, but showing too much alcohol, not enough hops and only a small level of complexity - still, it was nice to try. I sampled this 37,5 cL split bottle purchased from Pearl Specialty Market in Portland, Oregon on 04-May-2015 for US$6,46 sampled at home in Washington a few minutes after completing the USMC Marathon 2015 on 25-October-2015.

On tap at Bethany. Pours a clear orange color with a medium white head. A big perfumy sweet melon nose. The flavor is similar with lots of late boil hops, perfume, citrus, some sweeter caramel. Easygoing.
Earlier Rating: 11/2/2013 Total Score: 3.8
Sort of interesting Crux bottle from Whole Foods. Pours a clear golden color with a large white head. A big fruity hop nose, some leafy floral notes. The flavor is mellow, fairly dry, fresh green hops, low bitterness, big skunky dank hops. Very well made, clean and tasty. Lovely.

Bright, light amber. Bright mosaic aroma with light caramelly malts. Fairly chewy and strong - the alcohol is quite noticeable in the finish. Lots of mosaic, decent bitterness...pretty enjoyable.

Bottle. Brewed in 2013. Creamy nose with cherries, chocolate, some vanilla. Deep crimson color, cloudy, with lace. Cherry flavor, caramel, vanilla, sweet and sour. Rather sparkling body. Booze is amazingly well hidden. Very smooth and creamy. Some nice tropical fruit coming through as well. Very complex and delicious.

Bottle. Salmon-crimson color, cloudy, with lace. Lovely lactic nose, cherries, vanilla, yogurt, wine. Creamy cherry flavor with vanilla and a nice level of tartness, though a bit simple. Dirty finish. Some wood. Nice, though the nose is best and could probably do with some age.

Bottle: Near black in color, topped with a small tan head. Huge aroma of bourbon barrel sweetness, chocolate, and roasted malt. It swirls and swirls, if a scent could have layers this is it. It sets the tone for a rich flavor that is heavy in sweet bourbon barrel and vanilla. Lighter bittersweet chocolate and roasty notes. A very deep flavor. Really nice brew.

Waxed 375 from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours bright copper with a slight beige head. Aroma is oaky sour berry. Med body. Flavor is oaky cherry in a quite tart way. I think the barrel aging removes it from the range of Westvletteren sour red/browns, but there is certainly a kinship. So the flavor is sour/tart/oak/cherry. It is somewhat astringent. Mouth puckering. Quite a nice ale.
