Can, 5.0%. Clear pale yellow colour. Very small white head. The flavour is actually a lot better than the aroma. OK maltiness, good mouthfeel from the alcohol.

500ml bottle. Murky, deep, stained glass red-brown color. Nice creamy head. Aroma of brown sugar and licorice. Creamy rich taste, with a pungent chocolate finish. Lots of sweet dark malt characteristics, sort of like a strong Dunkel. The alcohol level is quite nice on this one, clearly stronger than a typical beer, but never overbearing. Pretty good example of the style.

Bottle: Pour a golden color with white foamy head. Sour citrus with a cardboard/paper hint. Taste is sweet almost corn pops cereal with a light hoppy metalic finish.

.5 L bottle. A sweet smell when opened and poured, which could tip over the wrong way into saccharine if it’s handled wrong. Muddy brown color I don’t usually find in any porter, though it does show some red highlights in the light. With my nose in the glass, it smells much more alcoholic than it probably really is. Taste has a few nice things going for it; some cocoa and dark roast malts, a sly sneak of ale temperature fruitiness and caramel. Slight suggestions of purple grapes and sweet cider. A bit of molasses cookie with maple in the middle, then a cola impression which is helped by its cola style fizziness. Quite nice and drinkable. The beer I’m having on my 49th birthday… well, I also set a Bell’s 8000 in the fridge to cool, but then we got all worked up over tornadoes going through our town.
