The desire to discover has a long tradition in Rožňava. The history of this royal city is closely connected with gold mining. Yet Rožňava gold was not only hidden in mines under the town. The German mining experts also brought the craft of making golden beer liquor here. So the history of Rožňava beer specialties dates to the Middle Ages. Years have passed, but the desire to discover the unknown has remained. That’s why we founded the Kaltenecker brewery in 1997. Instead of pre-made parts, we offered an honest craft. Instead of the same-old, variety. Because we’re all different, so why drink the same beer?
Kaltenecker followed a different path than large breweries. We brew our beer specials from 100% malt. We don’t use any stabilizers. Why would we? Our beer sells out immediately. Quality is the bedrock, and we’re also constantly discovering new tastes and new taste combinations. We enlarge our range with popular seasonal specials at least four-times a year. After all, when elderberry flowers bloom on Rožňava’s fields, why not make an elderberry special? We brew in small batches, but always with big imaginations. This is the path our brewery follows.

[Thanks to Cuso]. Bottled. Black colour with a good initial tan head with short persistence. Aroma has red fruit notes, strong coffee, roasted malts. Flavor is cocoa, light vanilla, roasted malts, black chocolate and red fruits. The final is bittery with a good duration.

Appearance: Hazy golden (cloudy when I put the rest of the bottle in the glass) color with a fine frothy white head. Fine curtain lacing.
Aroma: Malty, light fruity and hoppy.
Palate: Medium body. Moderate sweet and a rich bitterness. Soft carbonation. Oily at first, but when everything from the bottle was in the glass, it turned dry.
Taste: Fruity, hoppy and a deep malt base.
Overall impression: Fresh and easy drinkable although the high bitterness.

[Thanks to Cuso]. Bottled. Dark rubi colour with an off-white head, good duration and an average lacework. Aroma is light hoppy, with toasted hints, vinous and caramel. Flavor is bittery, with fruity and toasted notes, light caramel and red fruits. Final with a decent and long bitterness.

Tap at Hostinec Richtar Jakub. Aroma is promising floral hoppy. Yellowish head with nice duration, lightly hazy amber colour. Taste is very nice hoppy floral, with balancing malty caramel background. Pine. Finish is a little bit sourish. Overall nice IPA.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Clear deep golden-orange color. Aroma of malt, caramel, honey and lots of butterscotch. Sweet flavor, caramelly, sugary and buttery with a hint of floral honey. Medium-bodied. Unpleasant.

Tap at Biela Vrana 2013, Kosice and Hostinec Richtar Jakub, Bratislava. Golden copper color with huge long lasting white head. Aroma of malt, tangerines, grapefruit, honey, piney hops. Taste, malty base with caramel, honey, tropical fruit, piney hops. Nice long hoppy finish. Alcohol is dangerously hidden. Very tasty beer.

Appearance: Black color with a beige head. Nice lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate, coffee, vanilla and light fruity.
Palate: Thick oily body. Slightly sweet and a low bitterness. Creamy carbonation.
Taste: Rich chocolate and coffee. Also a fine vanilla and mild fruity background.
Overall impression: Brilliant Slovak Imperial Stout!.

Bottle. Aroma mostly hoppy. Not the strength one would expect from IPA, but nevermind. Colour is ruby-brown. Short lasting head. Taste is bitter hops, light caramel, grapefruit, earthy. Finish is dry hoppy. Ok beer.
