Description
The desire to discover has a long tradition in Rožňava. The history of this royal city is closely connected with gold mining. Yet Rožňava gold was not only hidden in mines under the town. The German mining experts also brought the craft of making golden beer liquor here. So the history of Rožňava beer specialties dates to the Middle Ages. Years have passed, but the desire to discover the unknown has remained. That’s why we founded the Kaltenecker brewery in 1997. Instead of pre-made parts, we offered an honest craft. Instead of the same-old, variety. Because we’re all different, so why drink the same beer?
Kaltenecker followed a different path than large breweries. We brew our beer specials from 100% malt. We don’t use any stabilizers. Why would we? Our beer sells out immediately. Quality is the bedrock, and we’re also constantly discovering new tastes and new taste combinations. We enlarge our range with popular seasonal specials at least four-times a year. After all, when elderberry flowers bloom on Rožňava’s fields, why not make an elderberry special? We brew in small batches, but always with big imaginations. This is the path our brewery follows.

Bottle, danke Günther. Sweet cherrylike aroma with christmassy spicy notes, wooden and light metallic spruce notes following as it warms - not entirely harmonic. Cloudy red brown, low head. Sour cherry entry, vineous oak notes, caramel, berries, vanilla, pipe tobacco, herbal finish. Fullbodied, sweet body, lightly carbonated, almost sticky. Quite interesting, starts a bit muddled, but flavors mesh after it warms up and breathes a bit - in the end it is almost a full fruity red wine.

Bottle 330ml. w. swing top.Clear dark black brown colour with a huge, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, licorice, chocolate, soy sauce notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, chocolate, alcohol. IMO a bit messy and unbalanced. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120817]

Tap at café Nervosa. Clear golden colour, medium sized white head, rather quickly disappearing. Aroma vanilla, and cherry. With my friend we agreed that there is even more vanilla, than cherry. Taste is medium bitter, light sweet, quite refreshing. Medium strong vanilla and cherry. Good drinkability. One of the better fruit beers, maintains a beer character despite the flavouring.
