Description
The desire to discover has a long tradition in Rožňava. The history of this royal city is closely connected with gold mining. Yet Rožňava gold was not only hidden in mines under the town. The German mining experts also brought the craft of making golden beer liquor here. So the history of Rožňava beer specialties dates to the Middle Ages. Years have passed, but the desire to discover the unknown has remained. That’s why we founded the Kaltenecker brewery in 1997. Instead of pre-made parts, we offered an honest craft. Instead of the same-old, variety. Because we’re all different, so why drink the same beer?

Kaltenecker followed a different path than large breweries. We brew our beer specials from 100% malt. We don’t use any stabilizers. Why would we? Our beer sells out immediately. Quality is the bedrock, and we’re also constantly discovering new tastes and new taste combinations. We enlarge our range with popular seasonal specials at least four-times a year. After all, when elderberry flowers bloom on Rožňava’s fields, why not make an elderberry special? We brew in small batches, but always with big imaginations. This is the path our brewery follows.

(draught 0,5l) Strong vanilla (vanilla biscuits) aroma. Clear golden color. Medium white head. Light sweet, light sour, vanilla biscuits taste. Medium body. Ligth astringent, vanilla aftertaste. Very interesting, original beer, but tasted not so much as beer.

Draught? or poured from a bottle? at the Főzdefeszt, ENORMOUS thanks to lord_totenkopf for this pricey bugger. Murky brown body with an off white head. Strawberry jam nose, in a nice way, not cloying. Smooth, distinctly fruity taste, raspberry jam this time. Not bad at all, only some light alcohol. Avoids the lack of drinkability some of the others at that level possess. These two returned my faith in the brewery!

Főzdefeszt, Budapest, courtesy of lord_totenkopf, shared with him and mattphilips (thanks!). Poured an opaque apricot body. Bubblegum nose, quite malty, lightly smokey. Light pancetta in the taste, smokey bublegum, not the smokiest beer around but a well executed slightly smokey weizen. The Kaltenecker I liked the best that far. My type of beer I guess.

Piritos of course. Lovely misty red body, pinkish small head. Light tart fruity nosr, not much pepper if at all. Malty fruity taste, cherry that ends im a chilli burn, lighter than in any other chilli beer that I’ve had. Mild for the ’style’ but a good beer.
