Description
Sullivan’s Brewing Company opened for business over three hundred years ago in The Maltings on James’s Street, smack bang in the middle of Kilkenny City. After Sullivan’s Brewery closed for the final time in the early 1900s the tales of the good deeds of this Sullivan Family began to fade into memory.

The Smithwick Family in partnership with direct descendants of the Sullivan Family had a vision to re-open the once-great brewery in the city where it all began. They enlisted the help of Ian Hamilton, one of Ireland’s most eminent contemporary master-brewers. Together they are bringing artisan brewing back to Kilkenny. If people thought that brewing in Kilkenny was dead and buried, they are in for a rude awakening…

Brewed at Dundalk Bay. Some small batch beers brewed in the taproom.

Creamy beige head left a spotty cover on a dark reddish brown coloured body. Malt & berry aroma. Medium bodied, smooth soft & clean on the back. Red berries, pine, raspberry, herbal & boiled sweet tastes with a sweeter fruity finish. That's a tasty brew.

Draft at Vinny & Teds, Chalfont St Peter. Poured almost black in colour with a lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, light caramel. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, rich, creamy, light floral, liqourice bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Pour is more of a cola brown with a large white head. Aroma is a toasty caramel malt. Flavor is more toasty caramel malt with some smokey aftertaste. Decent red ale and the smokiness at the end was surprising.
