Description
When Phil Bennett began planning for the Beowulf Brewing Company in 1996 there was no brewing going on in Birmingham. The original site of the brewery was in Yardley, where independent beer production started in the city in 1997. Beowulf began in a disused ex Co-op shop. Our original “signature” beer, Heroes Bitter, is still popular and sits at the head of an capacious list of regular and occasional beers. Now on the shore of Chasewater near Brownhills, Staffordshire the brewery is awash with Regional and National awards. Beowulf’s dark beers attract particular praise, devotion and accolades. The brewery celebrated its first twenty years last year and in 2018 we will finally get it together to have a beautiful website… turns out the internet is not a flash in the pan! Cask-conditioned at the Plough, Worcester 16/9/2016. Copper in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Hedgerow and orange fruits, leafy hops, sweet malts, leading to a decent, bitter, finish. A pleasant bitter.

Sampled @ GBBF day 1. Clear rusty orange color, small to average sized white head. Smell and taste malts, malt bitter, a bit buttery, caramel and a firm bitter finish. Average carbonation, decent body.

Cask at GBBF 3016 - Day 4. Pours clear copper-gold with a frothy, off-white head. A bit of caramel malt in the aroma, along with toasted leaves and grains. Light sweet flavour with mild grassy bitterness, more toasted grain husk, leaves and some earth. Light bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Finaihes with more toasty grains, leaves, mellow dried out caramel. A pretty OK bitter on the whole.

Cask-conditioned at the Plough, Worcester 176/6/2016. Golden in colour, with a slight, white, head. An easy drinking beer, with hay, cereal malts, a hint of stone fruit and moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Cask at the Wellington; dark brown pour with a bubbly tan head, aroma has dark roast and a hint of coffee, taste has tart dark fruits, very sweet, some liquorice, big ABV doesn’t really work.

Cask-conditioned at the Lime Kiln, Bristol 20/5/2016. Golden in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Stone fruits with a hint of lemon sharpness, crisp malts, leafy hops and moderately bitter finish. Pleasant.

Gravicask at Camra’s NWAF. Shared with Finn. Clear golden body, spotty lacing, no head. Herbal hops and buttery caramel nose. Mild caramel flavours together with herbal hops and citrus. Mid-dry bitter ending. Quite refreshing and tasty (Derby 17.02.2016).

Gravicask at Camra’s NWAF. Shared with Finn. Clear amber body, beige head, clingy lacing. Malty aroma, mid-dry. Blended taste profile of earthy malts, ripe citrus fruits and malt-fruity bitterness to the end. Pleasing (Derby 17.02.2016)
