Description
When Phil Bennett began planning for the Beowulf Brewing Company in 1996 there was no brewing going on in Birmingham. The original site of the brewery was in Yardley, where independent beer production started in the city in 1997. Beowulf began in a disused ex Co-op shop. Our original “signature” beer, Heroes Bitter, is still popular and sits at the head of an capacious list of regular and occasional beers. Now on the shore of Chasewater near Brownhills, Staffordshire the brewery is awash with Regional and National awards. Beowulf’s dark beers attract particular praise, devotion and accolades. The brewery celebrated its first twenty years last year and in 2018 we will finally get it together to have a beautiful website… turns out the internet is not a flash in the pan! Please come back and see it. All our cask and bottled beers will be listed along with some other interesting stuff.

Cask at The Briar Rose?, JDW, Temple Hill, Birmingham 01-12-07 Poured black with merest of heads. Intensely bitter and roasted coffee are very much the hallmarks of this beer but it was nice all the same, also quite dry and unlike others I thought that the alcohol wasn’t too bad.

Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, Bath 28/9/07. This was previously brewed at 4.5% ABV. An amber bitter with a slight, off-white head. The aroma started with a touch of malt before some earthy hops. The flavour was also slightly malty before a bitter finish. Not the most memorable of beers, but perfectly drinkable.
