Description
Ashford-based Low Key Barrel Project specialise in barrel aged beers. Producing beer in beautifully waxed 375ml bottles and specialising in big, aggressive beers from impy stouts right through to heavily adjuncted barley wines, Low Key brew anything but low key beer.

Can from Eltham Wines. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is chocolate orange, raisin, light coffee. Taste is maple, coffee, raisin with an extremely tasty backdrop of chocolate orange. Alcohol burn comes through in the back end. Sweet warming finish. Right up my Straße.

Keg at Pegasus, Canterbury, 25/08/23. Black with a tan swirl that thins in time. Nose is coffee, chocolate, hint of tonka, mellow roast, brown sugar melt. Taste comprises dark malts, mellow barrel, hint of Cointreau, chocolate, light spice balance, coffee bean, molasses. Full bodied, oily feel, warming booze cloaked close. Solid.

Roast, lots of caramel. Light orange, some vanilla. Oily texture. Sweet cloying finish. Plenty of booze. Tap at Wee Vault.

Keg at the wee vault... Soft sweet orange chocolates.. Big sweet chocolate roast.. Big boozy chocolate roast.. Light sweet vanilla orange.. Juicy roast

440ml can. Pours jet black with a small head. Aroma is citrus oils, heavy roast, bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Taste has orange and milk chocolate throughout with some tonka, vanilla and roast on the finish.

Bottle split at the Black Iris taproom, Notts get together, 07/07/23. Black with a tan heat that clears edgewards. Nose is dark chocolate, spice, charr, roasted bite, dried fruits. Taste comprises chocolate, mellow rum soak, fruit rinds, roasted tones, molasses, toffee, brown sugar melt. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol. Tidy if not top drawer.

Bottle split at the Black Iris taproom, Notts get together, 07/07/23. Black with a good sized tan head. Nose is chocolate, dark malts, molasses, hint of raspberry, mellow bourbon oak. Taste comprises dark chocolate, roasted bite, spice, charr, toffee, dried red berries, whisky kick. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a warming hit of alcohol. Decent if no wow.

Bottle split at the Black Iris taproom thanks to Monsieur Rose, Notts get together, 07/07/23. Black with a khaki head. Nose is chocolate, spice, toffee fudge, trace of candied orange peel. Taste comprises chocolate, roast, Turkish Delight, peanut butter, modest tonka, dark malts, fruit tang. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rise of alcohol. Tidy sipper but can always go more Tonka and perhaps barrel.

Can at home. Pours black, nose is chocolate, caramel, coffee, roasted, orange zest, tonka bean, taste is juicy orange up front, roasted coffee, meaty, chocolate, cacao powder, vanilla.
