Description
Holy Goat is a Dundee based brewery specialising in the production of mixed- fermentation and wood aged beers.

Mixed fermentation refers to the use of unconventional yeasts and bacteria in brewing, which allows production of beers with unique character. We are driven by experimentation and are obsessed with the awesome flavours which can be achieved from mixed-culture fermentations.

Inspired by tradition mixed fermentation beer styles we seek to pay homage to our brewing forbears, using new techniques, fermentation styles and the highest quality ingredients to produce complex, interesting and (most importantly) tasty beer!

The breweries name references the tongue-in-cheek description of the ‘goat’ like qualities of wild yeast (Brettanomyces) characteristics. A reverence to this yeast and to the beers which display these characteristics is a strong part of the identity of the brewery.

Hail the goat!

440 ml can. Pours black with moderate tan head. Aromas of roasted malts and burnt marshmallows. Flavors of charred wood, inky soy sauce, and clean roasted malts. Really good stuff. I could have another

Bottle at home it pours cloudy dark purple with a decent purple-khaki head. The aroma is sweet - sour, tangy, funky vibes, dark fruits, plum, prune, damson, jammy berry, blackberry, blueberry and fizzy cherry cola bottles. The taste is tart, sour, splash of acidity upfront, sherbet, fizzy cherry cola bottles, granny smith apple, sour berry, cherry, rapsberry, bramble, plum, damson, damp oak, red wine and some dull funk. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Works rather well. Good depth of dark fruit and berry.

440ml can, www.SophiesBeerStore.co.uk. Pours black, loose deep tan head. Lovely smoky aroma, some glazed BBQ meat notes. Taste is lovely and smooth, good rich layered dark character, the smokiness doesn't really steal the show, rather pairs nicely with a tantalising toffee sweetness that underpins a layered malt base and brings to mind supercharged dubbel vibes. A stellar smoked beer this. Excellent.

Key Keg at the Nottingham Beer Festival 2021. Hey black colour with a thick tan head. Roasted malty aroma bitter to light sweet. Smoke builds, the only downside a smoked ham like aftertaste. Full rich body.

Can shared in Watford - cheers to Tips. Pours deep brown with a foamy, beige head. Nice smoky nose. Medium sweet, a bit metallic, more smoked malts, a little cocoa, earth, raisins. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Warm, lightly sticky finish, more smoked malts. Not bad.
