Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

Draft @ Redlight. Rich deep ruby red color with a firm tan head and ultiimately nice lacing. Big rich caramel-toffee nose with a wee hint of smoke. Flavor features sweet malts, a bit of herbal hop and just a touch metallic. Enough melanoidin to bring out a raisiny character. Lingering candied fruit finish. Rich and a bit heavy, filling.

Draught at Hopfhaus, Vienna. Hazy golden, creamy head. Grassy nose. Sweet and creamy, medium bodied with seemless soft mouthfeel. Spun sugar turns to grassy bitterness. A whiff of paper amidst the creamy malt does not destroy the image of a mild, well drinkable and pleasant zwickl.

8/5/8/4/16 A bottle from Julius Meinl in Vienna, 2006. Nice amber color—not usually seen in Austria. Medium head that fades rather quickly. Malt aroma, hops as well.. Dry malt flavor, slightly roasted tasting, good hops as well as a bit of fruit, prunes or raisins. Malt finish with hops and a long-lasting bitter finish. Dry, nutty. Very nice beer with full flavor, almost no sweetness.

330ml bottle from Meinl am Graben, downtown Vienna. Clear brown body with a fragile head. Malty aroma. The flavour has got shades of caramel sweetness and minerals added by a touch of hoppy fruits. Alright for a pale lager (04.12.2007).

Bottled. Beer with pumpkin juice, whatever. Clear golden color, no head. Aroma of pumpkin, sour, skunky. Slight sour pumpkin taste I presume, bit bitter. Why do they try to make these weird brews actually?

Draught. Called a Märzen by the person pouring it. Weak citric aroma, a bit sweet. Nice, clear, dark amber colour. Stable creamy head. Fizzy and bubbly, but nice-looking. Mild flavour, quite malty, low bitterness. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Flavourful for a lager, and quite nice.
