Description
In May 1867, the Leinenkugel family brewery was founded in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin by Jacob Leinenkugel. He was a family man driven by an iron work ethic, and he knew that his German family heritage would play an integral part of his brewery’s success. Today, the sixth generation of Leinenkugels continues to brew some of the same family-inspired recipes that Jacob poured his heart and soul into. Over the years, our family has grown and so has our brewery, but our history and heritage remain at the forefront.

12 oz. tall skinny can bought at Total Wine - Melbourne, FL. Pours a clear straw color with a large white head and very good retention. Spots of lacing. Definite grapefruit aroma. The flavor is mostly seltzer with maybe a splash of beer (despite what the can says). Very light citrus flavor too. Crisp mouthfeel, thin body. Drinks like a soda. Better than a spiked seltzer, but that's setting the bar kinda low. Okay for what it is.

A deep dark red scotch ale with a thick creamy brown head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with strange fruity esters and lactic notes. In mouth, infected mess, tart cherry, light lactic and Epsom salts, astringency, bad.

I find Kolsches a decent departure from the Belgian ales and the imperial stouts I most prefer. This 12 oz bottle was discovered in the pick-6 rack at the neighborhood HEB. And I point out that the label now calls this beer Canoe Paddle Kolsch for what it is worth. I lift the cap and tilt into my ABGB snifter to determine a very clear, straw yellow body with a pure white head charged by a healthy carbonation. The scent is lemon and straw. With a drink I taste a light citrus, water, grain and a noticeable sweetness. Not an objectionable beer. On a hot summer day and a bottle pulled from a tub of ice water, this could be pretty fine.

12 ounce can from Festival Northland, 2/27/20. Clearly going after the seltzer market but it still seems like a beer product. Clear pale yellow, thin fizzy white head, poor retention. Aroma of strong grapefruit and some grain. Taste is pale malt, grapefruit. Flavor is kinda bland but aroma is nice. Medium bodied, low carb, well balanced.

12oz bottle on 21st Dec 2019. Long story, but I drank this at the La Mirada Theatre before and during a show by 'MenAlive' Orange County Gay Men's Chorus. In the bar it was from the bottle, to go into the seats I had to pour it into a plastic cup, put a lid on it and push a straw through the lid so I could drink the rest. Anyway the beer was a misty golden colour, no head. It was fine (as wheat beers go), wheat aroma and taste, light spices and a citrus twist gives some flavour and character.
