Description
In May 1867, the Leinenkugel family brewery was founded in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin by Jacob Leinenkugel. He was a family man driven by an iron work ethic, and he knew that his German family heritage would play an integral part of his brewery’s success. Today, the sixth generation of Leinenkugels continues to brew some of the same family-inspired recipes that Jacob poured his heart and soul into. Over the years, our family has grown and so has our brewery, but our history and heritage remain at the forefront.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a toffee color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that left good lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet with notes of orange and tropical fruit. Meh. It’s hardly a Berliner weisse, but I’m not rating to style, I mention only at the annoyance of thinking I might be getting one kind of beer but getting another. Anyways, pale gold, bright and clear, short living fizzy head. Nose hints at a tart wheatiness, green apple like, flavor semi-dry graininess, mild tartness, almost too much hop bitterness at the finish. Fairly light bodied. Drinkable enough.

Bottle: Pours clear, pale gold with a sizeable white head. Grain malt, lemon aroma. Taste is mildly tart, lemon, yeast, grain malt. Very light....nicely carbonated and refreshing. Summery.....Shandy-ish......not a Berliner, truly....but fairly pleasant and bright, tart beer.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 5/30/2016. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining thew cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, wheat, cracker, light honey, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of grapefruit, pale malt, and light earthy hops/yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, wheat, cracker, light honey, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/citrus peel bitterness and slight fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, wheat, cracker, light honey, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of grapefruit, pale malt, and light earthy hops/yeast ester flavors; with a great malt and light bitter/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from grapefruit bitter/tartness as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, creamy/bready, and slightly acidic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a very nice shandy style! All around good robustness and balance of grapefruit, pale malt, and light earthy hops/yeast ester flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is doughy, floral, apples. Pours clear orange with a bone-white head that collapses into a ring fairly quick. Taste is medium level bitter with an interesting apple flavor. The label says it’s an "ale brewed with a natural herb." Not sure what that could be. Pretty good for Leinenkugel’s.
