As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

Barwa bursztynowa, klarowne, piana biała, umiarkowanie obfita, dość trwała. W aromacie nuty chlebowe, lekko tostowe. W smaku słodowe, nieco tostu, chleba. Goryczka niska do średniej, wysycenie w normie, ciała całkiem sporo. W miarę przyjemny Keller, brakuje tylko nieco goryczki.

Draft at Hamerica's, Bologna, Italy. Pours light amber, fairly crisp, with moderate carbonation. Aroma is malty, strawberries and raspberry. Body is a little light, with a bit of stickiness and abundant carbonation (but the beer had been drafted to avoid foam). Taste is relatively malty and sweet, but with decent bitterness in the finish, which is relatively long.

50 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Trinkgut Kleve. Clear amber with a white head. Malty aroma with some caramel. Bitter taste. Just a standard keller, decent but boring.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear, reddish amber with a creamy and lacing, beige head. Dry, biscuity aroma. Medium body, again dry, biscuity accents leading to a dry and lightly hoppy finish. Excellent balance, never too sweet. Well crafted. 271217

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a hazy golden with a small, white head. Discreet, fruity nose. Light-bodied, slightly perfumy from added coriander - presumably. Dry finish. Would be an excellent summer quencher. 271217

Thanks to Kraddel / Beerlover_Ben. Draft glass. Hazy orange, creamy white head. Nose is bit soapy but also grapefruit peel, malt presence. Taste is nice grapefruit, low sweet, bit caramel, bit sweet but also low sweet pine, grapefruit in the back, drinks really well. Some bread, mellow but pleasant hop presence, drinks fairly well, way better than expected.

Bummer of a schwarzbier, aiming for dark and roasty but coming off more fruity and bitter, lacking much by way of chocolate or deep roasted malt notes and instead offering up a weird red apple center laced with espresso and floral Euro hops. Hints of toffee underneath the apple, but never develops the typical heavy black lager traits you want. Pours a dark, dark brown with a slight off-white head and minor lacing. Nose has faint notes of chocolate and yeast. Good sparkly texture, but otherwise a letdown.
