Description
As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

On tap at Man in the Moon in late September 2017. A bit hazy amber with a medium head. Aroma and taste of malt, caramel, grass and some fruit. Kind of soft and easy to drink.

Bottle, big long lasting dense bubbly head, very hazy deep orange color, aroma of vanila candy and fruit, malty bready biscuity flavor withvan empahic mediym herbal bitterness. Nice and satisfying.

Het is een oranje achtig bier met een medium schuimkraag. Het heeft een frisse geur. De smaak is wat hoppig en citrus achtig.

Bottle. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, caramel and malt. Taste of licorice, caramel, chocolate and soft malt. Typical.

Bottle. Clear amber color with eggshell head. Aroma is bready, caramel, herbal hops, nutty, but also quite dusty. Taste is dusty malts, a bit papery, earthy and nutty again as well as bready and with some sticky caramel sweetness. Silky mouthfeel. Too sweet for me.

Draught at Beers 2017, small creamy bubbly head, cloudy quite dark orange color, yeasty, nutty, honey aroma with a smokey hint, fruity malty bready flavor, light bitterness. Sessionable but not much of an IPA.

Draught sample at Beers 2017 festival in Tel Aviv. Hazy deep golden-orange. Malt, bread, citric and floral hops, sweetish, bitter finish, a bit of alcohol, medium-bodied. Decent.
