Description
Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. More than 30 years have passed since he first brewed our flagship Summit Extra Pale Ale, and it’s safe to say he freaking nailed it.

Today, Summit Brewing continues to infuse traditional recipes with modern ingredients from around the world, crafting high-quality and consistent craft beer out of respect for the hardworking folks who enjoy our beer.

And because we’re independently owned and operated, we get to make craft beer our way. That means relying on natural carbonation, protecting the foam, and celebrating the true dance between malts, hops, water, and yeast. It means protecting the environment, supporting the community and the arts, being kind to animals, and always having one more beer with our friends and family even if we’re already late for rotary club. It means drinking our beer fresh and cold, because warm storage turns good beer to shit. And it means never settling for “good enough,” always pulling the goalie when we’ve got a chance to win, swinging for the fences, and never, ever forgetting where we come from. Grain country represent.

Can. This beer is lighter in color than i expected, more gold than the amber color of so many bitters.Light noble hop aroma. Dry in the flavor where the malt is out front, as it should be. A mineral quality here. Moderately well hopped in the flavor, i taste the hops more than smell them in this beer. Not as amazing as the keller pils, but a solid session beer.

Tap at Summit. Copper color. Arom has light malt and bread sough. Flavor has aome comolexity, with flavors of caramel, more bread, some mineral character near the end. Very drinkable and great flavor also. One of the top two Vienna style lagers in Minnesota.

12oz can. Filtered orange-tan body. Foamy, soapy white head. Pretty straightforward USish saison in most respects. Bubblegum tones from the yeast. Not smooth enough to be a Grissette, but approaches that from a macro vantage point I guess. The unchained beers started out as a way for Summit to show off their chops, but the last ten or so have been drab half-assery. This one is still drinkable, but hardly a prime example of the style.

16 oz can poured. Much thanks to Hoff for the can! A golden orange pour with a thin, oily fizz head. Even aroma of grains and citrus hops. Flavor is cool and calm throughout. Gritty grains. Biscuit malt. Soft citrus. Bitter lingering finish. Nothing unique or stand out for this one, but a pleasant double for sure.

16 oz. can, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out herbal hops, a little pine and toasted biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with dry herbal hops and toasted biscuity malt. Dry palate, with a rather washed out hop character. It's okay.

Aroma’s really good as the Passion Fruit compliments the hops very well. However. In flavor, the PF drowns out the hops unfortunately. Cask version.
