Description
Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. More than 30 years have passed since he first brewed our flagship Summit Extra Pale Ale, and it’s safe to say he freaking nailed it.

Today, Summit Brewing continues to infuse traditional recipes with modern ingredients from around the world, crafting high-quality and consistent craft beer out of respect for the hardworking folks who enjoy our beer.

And because we’re independently owned and operated, we get to make craft beer our way. That means relying on natural carbonation, protecting the foam, and celebrating the true dance between malts, hops, water, and yeast. It means protecting the environment, supporting the community and the arts, being kind to animals, and always having one more beer with our friends and family even if we’re already late for rotary club. It means drinking our beer fresh and cold, because warm storage turns good beer to shit. And it means never settling for “good enough,” always pulling the goalie when we’ve got a chance to win, swinging for the fences, and never, ever forgetting where we come from. Grain country represent.

Can. Pours a clear deep golden orange with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of earl gray with a bit of sweet grains, a bit of bread and a touch of grass. Flavor has a nice balance of tea, sweet grains and grass with a slight bitterness in the finish.

GABF 2015. Well hopped, especially in the aroma. It reminded me of Boston lager. Heavily hopped for a bitter, some malt body for balance. Very drinkable.

Very fresh hops. I get the basil and a dryness from the rhubarb. Lots of hops in the flavor, citrus, and under ripe peach. At Grumpys. I am not getting the raspberry.

Keg at Summit rewing. Even from the keg, this beer has a very thick, lacing head that sits on top of beer. Brown, but red when held up to the light. Heavy roast in the arima.flavor is very dry and bitter, more grain, roasted malt, earth.good, thick palate.my experience with sticke alt is limited, but this does seem richer and fuller than other alt beers.

Draft at GBBF 2013, day 4 - London. Pours clear gold with a bubbly topping. The nose holds dry and moderately grainy pale malts, bread, dry citrus. Light sweet flavor, with some dry tangerine, some biscuits, mellow bitter straw. Light in body with fine carbonation; good condition. Nicely balanced in the finish, with a bit more biscuity pale malts, semi-dry tangerine. A nice IPA overall.

Autumn Brew Review, 2015. Probably a one off. Bright orange color. Smooth, mild malt flavors with a little hops. I think they nailed the style for a bitter but I do not pick up the chestnuts at all.

12 oz. can, pours a dark amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out herbal earl grey tea. Flavour is quite herbal, with earl grey tea, and lightly sweet cereal notes. Pretty subdued but nice and clean. Quite decent.

12oz can shared by Chris. I don’t think I would have guessed there was tea in this. I really like the tea character but the beer underneath it is a bit flabby. I don’t know how to describe it but I like it.
