Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. More than 30 years have passed since he first brewed our flagship Summit Extra Pale Ale, and it’s safe to say he freaking nailed it.
Today, Summit Brewing continues to infuse traditional recipes with modern ingredients from around the world, crafting high-quality and consistent craft beer out of respect for the hardworking folks who enjoy our beer.
And because we’re independently owned and operated, we get to make craft beer our way. That means relying on natural carbonation, protecting the foam, and celebrating the true dance between malts, hops, water, and yeast. It means protecting the environment, supporting the community and the arts, being kind to animals, and always having one more beer with our friends and family even if we’re already late for rotary club. It means drinking our beer fresh and cold, because warm storage turns good beer to shit. And it means never settling for “good enough,” always pulling the goalie when we’ve got a chance to win, swinging for the fences, and never, ever forgetting where we come from. Bottle from Beer Geek. Pours dark brown/black with a decent light tan head. Aromas of dark roast malt with coffee and chocolate. Rather full bodied with frothy carbonation. Flavor is coffee, dark roast/burnt malt and maybe a little chcoolate. The finish is slightly sweet. But the dark elements balance that. Not sure why this is perceived as thin by so many. Maybe cause it thins as the carbonation leaves?

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a hazed golden body and a fading white head. Aroma of plastic, orange and caramel. Taste is fizzy and grassy with some orange. Fizzy and dry.

Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Clear amber, small head. Evident grapefruit aroma. Mid-sweet with well rounded caramelly malt well ntergrated with grapefruity hops. ith seemless flavuor, edgeless mouthfeel and gently growing late bitterness it’s a delightful, very drinkable IPA!

Bottle. I have not had a lot of kolsch, but I did like this one. Amber color. Medium carbonation. Crisp and refreshing, with some yeast. Hops are light but there are there. This is a very solid session beer.

Good hop flavor and aroma. more biter than the pale ale, but this is certainly in a pale ale style as well. Some malt with fresh bread also. Dry finish.

Enjoyed at the Minnesota State Fair, both via a draft 16 oz glass and a 12 oz bottle. Pour is a dark orange golden copper with an off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, grass and straw. Taste is pleasantly mild sweet caramel with a floral aftertaste. Palate is medium, with a dry finish. Medium carbonation and the grassy body made this quite drinkable. Nice one.

Bottle thanks to swalden28. Pours with an orange body and an off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toast. Taste is extremely bitter for a Marzen, with some caramel and bready flavors. Light bubbles and a dry finish.

12oz shorty bottle. Highly filtered orange-brown color with a minimal, patchy head. Classic robustly sweet aroma. Creamy malt taste, with some noble hoppy bitterness upfront. Just noticing the ABV..pretty impressively covered up..could easily pass for 6.0%. Certainly some rich sweetness in the aftertaste though now that I have been made aware of it’s strength. Unique and classic and the same time.

12 oz bottle-pours a foamy white head and hazy yellow color…swirled the last few ounces in the bottle, now cloudy yellow. Aroma is coriander, grain/wheat. Taste is coriander, grain/wheat with some sweetness, yeast, some hops to balance. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

Courtesy of markwise. Pours clear deep gold with micro thin white head. The aroma is sugar sweet sprinkled with dirt and then floral hops and a bit of sweet corn. The taste is grainy to sugary malt sweetness to go along with a layer of floral hops.
