Can courtesy of Nisse666. Pours pale golden with a small frothy white head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and artificial with sweeteners, metal, rotten pears, canned corn and hints of soil and green apples. Taste is sweet and tiny bitter with old bread, canned corn, puke, metal, rotten apples and pears, cereal and hay. Mouthfeel is crisp, astringent and light bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and slightly bitter with canned corn, rotten fruits, hay and cereal.

Excellent enough lager to quench the thirst on a hot day, although it is a hot day everyday in Egypt. Has a disappointing soapy aftertaste.

Medium offwhite head. Clear very pale yellow body. Mealy cardboard aroma with strawy herbal notes. Dry mealy cardboard taste with herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry mealy papery aftertaste with herbal notes. It could be worse, but is deeply bland. (0.5l can, gift from in-laws.)

Brought back from a world cruise by my parents: green 330ml bottle poured into a ’Duvel’ glass on a cold and wet May evening in Shropshire. Oh dear: this is one bland brew and it doesn’t hold it’s looks for long either. Clear body of very pale straw coloured liquid: the head that appeared disappeared just as quickly to leave a mini wisp and thin collar around the glass. Wet cardboard aroma, dry and metallic taste: this isn’t good. Wish I had someone to share it with (this is a live tasting).

Oct 2011: 500ml can brought back from Egypt by my daughter and her husband. God, they’ve brought me an Arab drunks beer I thought, only drank on street corners away from the bright lights (does Egypt have bright lights?), and how right I was. Anyway, it was poured into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip and a Veltins Pilsner glass, as my benefactors (daughter and son-in-law) wanted to try it too. Lager like in appearance, mid-golden, clear, clean and bright, the head refusing to hang around, like so many lager/pilsners. It had a smell, nothing huge or exciting but it did have hints of sweet floral hops and I had high hopes for the taste. I should have known better, the beer just had an alcohol front and no subtlety what so ever: worse was to come, that nasty metallic twang cheap lagers sometimes have appeared as the mouth dried to leave you with a reminder never to have another of these unless you want the hangover from Hell and no friends, ever. I drank my half fairly quickly, as cold it was drinkable, warmer it would have been vomit inducing without a doubt.
