Associated Venue: Gilman Brewing Company
Established in 2015
Together, the three friends transformed an old automotive repair shop with their own hands into the Berkeley brewery so many people enjoy today. They are a hands-on crew; no fancy suits or outside investors here. They build it themselves and fix it when it breaks…turns out they also love breaking things – especially common misconceptions about one of their favorite beer styles: saisons!

More akin to a stout than a porter to my taste. But overall very nice and full. Above average for the style. Gilman berkeley.

VERY slightly tart. Mild fruitiness from the nectarines is in perfect proportion. These guys brew wonderfully clean and full bodied beer. Gilman berkeley.

The maple is 7/10 strong. The body is consistently full on all their beers, as is this one. The underlying brown is clean and plain and meshes well with the maple. Gilman berkeley.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a hazy bright yellow/orange color with a small white head. The aroma has huge fuzzy peach and nectarines. Nice. The flavor is lightly spicy and creamy with lots of peach and nectarine. Not sour at all. Big time fruit character with barely noticeable saison yeast. Interesting to try.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a lightly hazed golden orange color with an off white head. The aroma has some lightly smoked grains and maybe a hint of maple syrup. The flavor has some lightly sweet maple and a hint of smoke. The smoke builds in the finish, but the body is very light for such aggressive flavors. It needs to have more body for support. Low carbonation. The malt character is a bit doughy. Just ok.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a light golden color with an off white head. The aroma has orange, mint and some light menthol, herbs and honey. The flavor is very herbal, lightly perfumy with some hints of pine and menthol. A little toasted malt with really strong herbal/piney bitterness. Well made. Sort of an old school West Coast/British hybrid IPA. Different and not bad.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a clear light yellow/gold color with a white head. The aroma is very sweet with big grape notes and more subtle hints of melon and peach. Very fruity and a tad artificial, like gummy bears. The flavor is like watered down liquified gummy bears. Maybe otter pops. I dunno...very sweet, fruity and somewhat artificial tasting. Not horribly over-the-top or offensive, just weird. Not really my thing.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a very dark brown color with ruby highlights and an off white head. The aroma has a little cherry pie and subtle roasted notes. The flavor has sweet caramel and hints of roasted malt. Not much brett at all. Maybe a light hint of funk and pepper in the finish. A little syrupy in the mouth. Just alright.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a clear golden color with a creamy white head. The aroma has some apricot and light baking spice. The flavor is snappy with some notes of apricot, white grape and peach with mild baking spice and a hint of phenol that suggests high fermentation temps. Pretty full bodied and a little sweet for the style, but it does have a pleasant snappy finish. Ok.
