Description
It was more than 335 years ago that Jean de Chaine from Wallonia founded a brewpub in Mannheim which he called Eichbaum, the German translation of his family name. Today, this is one of the largest and most efficient breweries in Baden-Württemberg. It is the oldest company in Mannheim but also one of the most modern. State-of-the-art brewing and bottling technologies make for an annual output of 1.8 million hectolitres. More than 16 different beers and many different trading units make Privatbrauerei Eichbaum an attractive partner.

330 ml bottle from the Coop in Davis, CA. Brassy gold color with a decent white head. Light malt aroma accompanied by a little grassy hop. Medium body with coarse going to creamy carbonation. Flavor is a spicy noble hop variation with some malt. It’s definitely bitter. Perhaps not so crisp as Urquell, but a pretty good pilsner. Finishes reasonably dry.

Bügelverschlußflasche: Hazy, light amber coloured, stable lacy off-white head; sweetish-fruity and toasted-malty aroma with some shy hoppy influences; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied, quite soft MF; a light alcoholic trace in the sweet-fruity and caramelly finish. Not bad, but a bit too sweet........

(swing top bottle, courtesy of Koelschtrinker) Hazy, amber colour with a big and light-beige foamy head. Dusty, sweet and slightly toasted malty aroma, also slightly nutty and subtle fruity with a shy dash of hops. Light-bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Toasty malty taste with yeasty and herbal notes; sweet-bitter, toasty and slightly fruity finish with a very light hops-character. Decent unfiltered Dunkel (07.07.08).

Can 50cl. Bought Italy. Pours clear gold with a white foam & lacings. Aroma is sweet & has lots of grain & corn. Sweet & sticky flavor. Strong, warm alcohol shows. Not horrible - could be a lot worse!

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of KimJohansen. Clear golden with a dense, off-white head. Clean and very malty nose. Quite full-bodied with a solid and sweet and clean malt base with a dry and lightly sulphurous and bitter finish. But pleasant. 130608

Canned (thanks mabjork). Hazy golden golden colour, small white head. Aroma is malty, with some green apples. Flavour is very sweet malts, alcohol and grass. Could be a doppelbock with some very sweet notes.
