Pours clear golden with a thick white head. Aroma of acerbic malt. Taste has malt, hints of grass. Lingers on the nose. Hop (get it!), skip, and a jump from water. It's like water with a pleasant beer-like hint.

Yet another trip down the boulevard of broken dreams, malt liquor, but Steel Reserve is the ticket if you drink a fruity one. And I have. And I am about to again. A 24 oz can of Spiked Strawberry served up in my best paper bag. Yes, the smell of strawberry is absolutely nailed. A long drink, my gosh, quite tolerable. It doesn’t strike me as being as sweet as others from Steel Reserve. Still, no lack of sugar, something like a Strawberry Crush from back in the day and maybe a touch of citrus. But that might be just a stretch of my imagination. This is an easy drink and not offensive, legitimate praise for sure.

473ml can. Pours a crystal clear gold with a small, foamy, long lasting, white head that laces. Faint aroma of grainy malt and corn. Sweet flavour of grainy malt, corn and grass in a crisp, clean finish. Light body with a thin, watery texture and average carbonation. Take Back the High Life? I wonder if they mean you need to get High in order to enjoy this?

I don’t want just a malt liquor. I want a fine malt liquor. This 40oz to freedom was picked up today at the nearby convenience store after I used their car wash. The clerk put the bottle in a paper bag, I think I will keep it that way. I detect your basic beer scent and with the green bottle it is kind of hard to figure out the color of the liquid. But I do like that it is a glass bottle, none of that plastic business. Substantial. A drink, not bad. A suggestion of citrus, grain, sweet corn and water. Not up there with OE 800 but better than Steel Reserve. Heaven help me, I’m a malt liquor connoisseur.

A 24 oz can that has been in the back of the fridge for a long time I think. In the day I thought this was one of Steel Reserve's best brews, time to see if that remains the case. I will drink out of the can, no glassware getting in the way, still some fizz to it, good sign. From what I see, it is a pale green in color. And the taste is somewhat that of a margarita, they did get that right. But no confusion, it is not a margarita. Sort of a limeade, very sweet and not really a beer. But towards the high end of flavored malt liquors.

24 ounce can looks like a grain silo. Lovely clear gold pour. Large frothy white head subsides to a scant creamy cap. Faint grainy malt aroma has grassy, mineral notes. First sip is thin and watery. Light grainy notes. A slight bit of citrus and corn syrup on the palate is fleeting. As light pilsners go, this is Lite as advertised.

Pours pale golden with a thick white head. Aroma of grass, slightly floral. Taste has light amber Pilsen malt, continuation of the floral notes. Palate has light hop notes on the tongue. Fantastic.
