Description
"It all started in 1980… Hugh Sisson, a Maryland native, theater grad school major, and all-around good guy, joins his family’s restaurant & bar, “Sisson’s” located on Cross Street in South Baltimore.
Craft beer wasn’t even on the radar back then. But, Hugh quickly recognized that to run a business, you need to do something to be different.
Light bulb moment: “What if we turned Sisson’s into a brewpub and brewed our own beer?”
Solid plan, right? Problem: Brewpubs weren’t legal in Maryland at the time.
In 1987, Hugh worked with Maryland legislators to draft a bill to legalize brewpubs in Baltimore City – the bill passed on first attempt. Fast forward to 1989, “Sisson’s” becomes the first brewpub in the state of Maryland.
After the brewpub scene for a few years, Hugh felt the need for a bigger stage (theater-pun intended.) In 1994, he left “Sisson’s” for his next business venture… and the rest, friends, is nothing short of Maryland craft beer history"

First let me say that I am the wrong ratebeerian to rate this beer for style. Back in 2004 when I started following RB, all my RB peers said my pallet would mature to IPA; well, it didn't. I guess I'll never grow up to a be a RB adult, I'll always be a RB kiddoh. But just because its beer, I'll somewhat like it after a hard day of yardwork hauling around and leveling garden soil; especially because it will provide a near 8% dopamine slam. Any who, this beer pours a darker off pale and slightly hazy. Very nice creamy holding head. The nose is certainly fruity, difficult to pick out any IPA hops on the nose. Not sure if I find any lime in the olfactory either. First taste is what else? A big fat hoppy bitter slam in the face, with an after taste that provides a small amount of phenolic astringent bite, blah. Terribly on style. Now there is this warming sensation easing its way down my throat. In the middle, I think I am getting some fruit but to say its lime or mango is a stretch. Its so one sided with the hops, like any good IPA should. Rude ass brew that is quite difficult for my girlie lager loven taste buds to endure, whew. The finish? It's mouthcoating and somewhat viscous. What else can be said except it ruined my taste buds for a half hour? There, you have it. Somebody please get me a clean clear ice cold cheap pale lager for a chaser.

Can thanks to Sloth: Poured a caramel with a creamy beige head. Aroma is boozy, hoppy, bourbon, opens the eyes alcohol. Taste is rugged hops, whiskey bourbon bite, caramel, citrus, burning alcohol.

Caramel and tin. Copper pour with decent head. Fairly crisp finish. Can. Maybe should be a Vienna?

Super clear, but deep golden and light copper coloured body with a thinnish, but noticeable one centimetre tall tan head that leaves a thin lace on top after a few minutes. Aroma of very strong strawberries and bananas - just like a smoothie - very strong in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Super pungent and offensive, bitter and strong hops and aggressive, bitter hops show up front with a lot of alcohol and deep bitterness from the pervasive fruits, which are very strong and perhaps too bitter. Aftertaste shows the bitterness and pure astringent alcohol notes way more than anything else - a lot stronger in the finish than I was expecting - this one was very hard to get down! Overall, not such a great beer, especially for how pungent and deep/assertive this was with limited fruit notes - not so enjoyable and a bit too funky! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Wegman's [grocery] in Fairfax, Virginia on 18-September-2022 for US$2,33 (part of a mixed six pack), best by 06-December-2022 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 05-October-2022.

Super crisp and very clear deep copper and light brown coloured body with a deep amber glow, all with a pretty nice two centimetre tall large-bubbled light brown and tan head. Aroma of super strong and bitter lime and mango notes with a ton of dryness and grassy notes, but the bitterness from the alpha acids are strong. Medium-bodied; Very crisp and bitter dry and grassy, herbal malts show at first with a bunch of perfumey notes, but the alpha acid bitterness and punch from this is very strong, especially on the end. Aftertaste is dry, very limey, with a lot of citrus notes, but also some crisp mangoes as well, with a rather strong malt quality that has a lot of pungency, but enough to support the hop bitterness of the alpha acids and the citrus fruits. Overall, a strong and older school IPA, with real bitterness, although more of it is seemingly from the limes and mangoes than from the hops, but this is nicely balanced and structured well. Nice to try, soon after purchase and local - not a bad beer at all - interesting! Bottle. Eye is viscous and back as pictured. Nose is mild alky volatile vanilla. Tongue is mild tart flavor on top of mouthcoating thick brutal burnt barbaric barrage. A big boozy bowser baleful balking bane. Palate's a beaten barren befouled beleaguering feeling. Middle bemoans a bereft betrayal. Finishes with a bereft bewildering betrayal of intense blameworthy blathery. Such a boorish bossy cloying alky bomb braggart. I'm brainwashingly bristly. Whew, whiskey entrails on the end. Anybody got a beloved beautiful bundle of pale lager chaser?

Big heavy scary volatile noxious nose of pine tar and hops perfume. Thick yellow viscous off orange milky appearance. Taste is big mouth coating obnoxious blast to the palate. Gigantic gaudy gawky gloomy gross grotesque grievous glib of gulag glum. Oh my, there's no place like home with a soft easy macro lager. This stuff is a face & jaw gripping gutless grueling somewhat harmful hateful heartless hostile humiliating half baked harassment. I hope there's always, tomorrow, there's always tomorrow, tomorrow a berliner weisse, I hope for tomorrow. It will take until tomorrow to forget I drank this bitter juicy jejune jarring jumpy jaded joyless jive turkey. If you like IPA? This stuff is terribly on style, it'll rototill your buds and ruin them for an hour to come. Better go score a can, whew. It's certainly a manly thing to do. Blah.
