Description
"It all started in 1980… Hugh Sisson, a Maryland native, theater grad school major, and all-around good guy, joins his family’s restaurant & bar, “Sisson’s” located on Cross Street in South Baltimore.
Craft beer wasn’t even on the radar back then. But, Hugh quickly recognized that to run a business, you need to do something to be different.
Light bulb moment: “What if we turned Sisson’s into a brewpub and brewed our own beer?”
Solid plan, right? Problem: Brewpubs weren’t legal in Maryland at the time.
In 1987, Hugh worked with Maryland legislators to draft a bill to legalize brewpubs in Baltimore City – the bill passed on first attempt. Fast forward to 1989, “Sisson’s” becomes the first brewpub in the state of Maryland.
After the brewpub scene for a few years, Hugh felt the need for a bigger stage (theater-pun intended.) In 1994, he left “Sisson’s” for his next business venture… and the rest, friends, is nothing short of Maryland craft beer history"

12 ounce bottle thanks to maniac! 6/17/22. Dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, brownies. They're going for intense chocolate, and and least in the aroma, they got it. Taste is cherry, roast, chocolate, chocolate brownies. A bit thin. Nice beer.

12 ounce can from Total Wine Gainesville VA, 6/17/22. A little too on the nose, as my father is currently on his death bed and in a vegetative state following a stroke, and I got this beer from Total Wine in Gainesville, VA, with the other TW being in Gainesville, Florida, the state where my father will likely die in the next 3-4 days in hospice. So impending doom indeed. How can I be ticking beers at a time like this? Well (a) I am not very close with my father and we've had a complicated relationship, and (b) self-medication. Murky orange, large frothy white head, good retention. Aroma of dank, grapefruit, tropical fruit. Taste is dank, melon, resin, grapefruit. Juicy, mild bitterness. Hint of booze, but well hidden. Nice beer.

Amber with a frothy, white head. Aroma full of caramel, pine and mango, a combination that somehow works. Taste is bitter with a mild hoppy spicyness at the finish. Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation with a firm malty backbone. Good.
