Description
"It all started in 1980… Hugh Sisson, a Maryland native, theater grad school major, and all-around good guy, joins his family’s restaurant & bar, “Sisson’s” located on Cross Street in South Baltimore.
Craft beer wasn’t even on the radar back then. But, Hugh quickly recognized that to run a business, you need to do something to be different.
Light bulb moment: “What if we turned Sisson’s into a brewpub and brewed our own beer?”
Solid plan, right? Problem: Brewpubs weren’t legal in Maryland at the time.
In 1987, Hugh worked with Maryland legislators to draft a bill to legalize brewpubs in Baltimore City – the bill passed on first attempt. Fast forward to 1989, “Sisson’s” becomes the first brewpub in the state of Maryland.
After the brewpub scene for a few years, Hugh felt the need for a bigger stage (theater-pun intended.) In 1994, he left “Sisson’s” for his next business venture… and the rest, friends, is nothing short of Maryland craft beer history"

16oz can pours a murky, dark gold with plenty of fluffy, white head. Nose has pineapple and tangerine, some orange curd, a bit sugary and with the tropical fruits it almost reads more tripel than DIPA. Flavor is sweet and sugary, candy, curacao orange, tangerine. Full, sweet finish. 7 3 7 3 12

Tap at the brewery pours a clear gold, filmy white head. Nose just has citrus zest, grapefruit and tangerines and limes and orange, some candy or perfume. Flavor is more fake, sadly, sweet, artificial citrus, like candies or cough drops. Flabby finish.

2 month old can A: Hazy but not murky Deep yellow color topped by 1/2 of tight yellowish head. Good retention and walls of lace left. S: Heavy on lemon and citrus zest with light caramel and pine. T: Bitter pith and zest to start, whether more lemon or grapefruit. Quickly joined by some astringent pineapple and biscuit before ending with more pith. M: Smooth texture with light soft carbonation and a rough puckering finish. O: Very good bitter IPA without being too fruit juicy although it comes close.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run, 2/6/19. Clear dark brown, not much of a head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, cherry. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, strawberry, caramel. Full bodied, oily, hints of booze, but the booze is well hidden. This goes down too easy! 10th eisbock!
