Opened in 1993 at 1080 W San Marcos Blvd., the San Marcos Brewery was one of the region’s first gastropubs with an onsite micro-brewery where its brewers produced English-style ales and oatmeal stout beers.

On tap at San Marcos, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out caramel and vanilla, like a liquid tiramisu. Flavour is similar, with light vanilla, a little caramel and some metallic notes. Sweet and lacking any depth. No good.

On tap at San Marcos, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out dry cereal notes and light clove. Flavour is sweet and estery, with lots of banana and sweet fruitiness. Not brewed to style and rather unpleasant. Not a fan.

On tap at San Marcos, pours a clear blonde with a medium white head. Aroma brings out light vanilla, not much else. Flavour is similar, with vanilla, cereal malt and light creamsicle. Decent for the style, but that's not saying much.

On tap at San Marcos, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tinge and a medium light brown head. Aroma brings out dry cocoa, light roast and some chalk. Flavour is very bitter, with bitter dry cocoa and light roast. Metallic and astringent. Not a good oatmeal stout.

On tap at San Marcos, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out light toasted bready caramel malt, not much else. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted bready caramel and a touch of resinous hops. Simple and tame. Can't compete with the competition.

On tap at San Marcos, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma is very light, with gentle spicy hops and biscuity malt. Flavour is similar, with dry biscuity malt and gentle herbal, light spicy hops. Pleasant but boring blonde.

Draft. A brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with light notes of roasted malt, which also lends it a bit of acidity, leading to a roasted finish. The body is light.
