Description
The Knoblach inn has been in Schammelsdorf since 1880 and it has been brewing there for about this long. Today Michael Knoblach is the resident master brewer. The Knoblachs are deeply rooted in their homeland and maintain good contact with regional suppliers and farmers. They attach great importance to preserving and actively promoting the diversity of the Bamberg region. For this purpose, the raw materials are, as far as possible, bought exclusively from the region. This not only has the advantage of boosting the domestic economy, but is also reflected in the quality. The ingredients couldn't be fresher.

(bottle) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a medium-sized off-white foamy head. Mildly toasted malty aroma with nutty notes, a whiff of barnyard and caramel, backed by mildly herbal and subtle citric hops. Mildly sweet and delicately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth and well-matured carbonation. Moderately toasted malty and slightly nutty malty taste with hints of bread crusts, caramel, a whiff of chocolate, as well as herbal hoppy accents in the background, the latter getting stronger towards the lasting, mildly sweet malty and hop bitter finish. Very solid Franconian quality. 16.IX.14

At the brewpub, 12 August 2014. Dark brown with a slight, off-white, head. Some toasted malts, a trace of plain chocolate and tart fruits, with a full-bodied, bitter finish. Sweetness avoided throughout and excellent for it.

At the brewpub, 12 August 2014. Deep gold in colour with a decent, white, head. This was similar to the same brewery’s Lagerbier, being slightly less bitter with some more fruit evident. Very good.

At the brewpub, 12 August 2014. Hazy gold with a decent, white, head. Aroma of grassy hops, with some sweetish malts and a touch of stone fruit. Flavour had more crisp malts and fruit, before a lengthy, bitter, finish. Enjoyable.

7/12/11/12//11
