The first beer by this new microbrewing company in the Namur province of Wallonia, a humble blonde (of course, I would almost add). Moussy, snow white, opening but tight and stable ‘ring’ for a head, lightly hazy pure yellow-golden robe. Aroma of old bread, oxidized apple slices, raw potatoes, overcooked cauliflower (DMS!), garden weeds, celery, grass, old moldy cereals. Fruity onset, halfripe banana with a hint of pear, subdued in sweetness, with medium carbonation; supple and simple cereally pale malt core with retronasal DMS and raw potato aspects, along with a grassy hop bitterish finish in which the ‘green’ fruitiness also lingers. Lacks personality and flair even for an unassuming ‘outdoors café blonde’ – a genre which is hardly my cup of tea to begin with. Not impressed, these guys will have to come up with something more convincing than this if they want to make even a local difference.
