Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. The aroma is a mixture of pumpkin, spices and roast malts. In the mouth it is briefly sweet with a creamy texture before spices come through to dominate, Flavour has pumpkin, ginger, cloves, cinnamon and roast malts, leading to a spicy finish. Thisis really rather nice – very moreish.

12/10/2023. Cask at Nottingham Robin Hood Beer & Cider Festival 2023. Pours clear mahogany brown with a small bubbly/frothy off-white to beige head. Good pour. Aroma of pumpkin, spice, cinnamon, biscuit, caramel. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness, light spicy edge. Moderate body, oily, average carbonation. Enjoyed this.

On tap at Hops, Crewe – surprised to see this as I thought it was the house beer for Kings Lock in Middlewich. Anyway, pours a cloudy copper with minimal off-white head. Just some vague sweet malts in the aroma. In the mouth it has a mix of traditional hops and some sharpness, with a creamy texture. Flavours of autumn fruits, caramel and nuts plus some hints of ginger, leading to a slightly spicy finish. This is decent. Possibly my favourite Four Priests beer – certainly the most interesting !

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a very dark murky brown with minimal off-white head. Not much of an aroma, just some hints of malts. In the mouth it is sweet with oats being the initial flavour along with malts and cola plus some traces of biscuits, and butter lurking underneath it all. Later on a hitn of ginger comes through as well. Finish is a little fruity. This is decent if somewhat run of the mill.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe - a couple of weeks ago, and I made no notes at the time... Pours a hazy golden brown with small off-white head. Some malts in the nose. In the mouth it is slightly sweet but with decent hoppy undertones. Finish is quite dry. Decent. (Rerate required)

Cask (gravity) at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a golden yellow. Aroma has honey and malts. In the mouth it is superficially sweet, but with bitter undercurrents. Flavour has oranges and marmalade. Finish is slightly bitter. This is OK, and an easy drinker, but a bit bland and nodescript.
