Open Air New Worlds Cold IPA 6% Open Air is probably one of my favorite breweries in Kansai. I’ve gotta get to their brewery in Kobe sometime… Light bright yellow gold with a foamy white head of foam and a vibrant grapefruit aroma. Medium bodied with a dry finish and slightly raspy carbonation. Grapefruit and sweet tart candy notes then some earthy herbal bitterness. This really hit the spot and I polished it off in a flash.

First up is the Triskelion, apparently each brewery made their own version but I only have the one from open air though I think all three were served at Craft Beer Live. Open Air x Hino x Nomcraft Triskelion 6% White IPA W/white sage and lemongrass Lovely honey gold with thick white foam and a fantastically soft body. The aroma is wheat, lemongrass and sage but very soft and approachable. The taste makes me think more modern wheat beer than IPA as either few hops were used or they blend in do well with the herbs as to be rendered unnoticeable (the label lists:nugget, centennial, Cryo Citra and motueka were used so I’m guessing more well blended than not used). This is a cracking beer on a scorching lunch hot summer day.

Open Air x Tall Boys African Amber 5.5% Nice looking reddish Amber with thick light beige foam. Nice biscuity caramel with floral then woodsy pine notes in the aroma. Full bodied with a soft mouthfeel. The taste matches the aroma, really smooth stuff.

Open Air x Nomcraft Beach Hoodie West Coast Pilsner 6% This IPL is a straw gold with fuzzy white foam and a nice herbal/fruity hop bouquet. It’s got a smooth medium body and a bitter green hoppy finish. This is a smooth easy drinking beer. @Craft Beer Live 2023

Open air Minatoyama Lager Italian Pilsner 5.5% Bought in LUCUA in Umeda. Opaque gold with a bit of an orange tint and fluffy white foam. A sweet dusty Pilsner malt and delicate fruity herbal hop bouquet wafts from my glass. Radium to light bodied with a slightly raspy carbonation that’s prickly on my tongue. A bit too gassy but the taste is on point delivering chewy light malts and a lovely light hoppy bite. Well worth trying.

Open Air x Shiokaze Paper Castle Imperial Pilsner 8.5% A lovely amber gold color with very pale beige thick fast dissipating foam. Big sweet biscuity Vienna malt aroma, full bodied and sweet with a bit of heat. The first sip gave nice hop notes but then the malts and kokuto + akato sugar take charge.

Tap at Komachi. Pale gold, hazy af. Nose is tropical, coconut, pineapple, orange, wheat. Flavor is a quick sweet hit of lactose with interesting coconut and pineapple, orange juice. Finish is a bit dirty and bitter. The hopping is nice, the lactose sweetness put me off, as did the finish.

Tap at Beer Bravo Festival. Salmon pink color. Nose is apple pie, grapefruit, tropical fruit, cherry. Decent but not great, a bit too much going on in the additives.

Tap at Beer Bravo Festival. Slightly hazy golden. Spicy, fruit hop nose, deep rich malt. Very fruity, crisp, not too sweet, balanced and nice. Fresh hops.

One of the better new breweries in Kansai: Open Air Fireworks IPA 6% Matte gold with a juicy orange aroma. Medium to full bodied with a slightly scratchy mouthfeel. A bit on the too many hops side of the hazy spectrum but it avoids hop burn. Overall, a pretty nice brew that I just wish I was drinking while watching fireworks.
