Was so lucky to get a bottle of this from ebay. Best before date: 1991. Was wondering, if it is still drinkable. Yes, it was! Looks good in the glass for it’s age. Very old, smoky aroma. Starts a bit vapid, woody. The finish is scratchy, like wood again, not really dry. Surprising good!

1995 Bottle listed at 14.7% when bottled. I cannot thank Klint enough for bring this to my "Open Eyes Tasting". Pours with a light brown, quickly dissipating head covering a dark brown body with some yeasty particles sinking to the bottom (although lots of small grainy particles are left on the side of the glass (like a 50+ year old bottle of wine)). Aroma is complex and constantly changing. I get, sherry, oxidation, soy sauce and raspberries. As far as taste, I get vanilla, raspberries, soy sauce, tawny port, sherry and raisins. Again, amazing, and I cannot thank Klint enough. Syrupy mouthfeel, with light carbonation poking through. Amazingly and endlessly complex!

Had a very old bottle of this - from 1983. The year of my birth. The bottle looks great, the beer in the glass also. Almost black, no foam. Very strong and malty beginning. The middle is a bit "milder", still prickly-alcoholic. Warming finish, goes down oily. Scratchy for a moment. A light sweetness in the background. An amazing beer!

Test vom 30.3.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,13,11,14,12,13 - 12,77

Very big thanks to jjpm74 for the bottle. Looks very, very good. The beer in the glass is very dark for a heller bock. Very alcoholic aroma. Starts very strong, breathtaking. Reminds me of choclate for a short moment, turns then fruity. The finish tastes like christmas herbs. An incredible good beer! Thanks for this experience, jjpm74!

Bottle from 1995. Pours a slightly hazy brown color with a very small off-white head. Has a malty caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sweet malty caramel flavor with lots of chocolate and dark fruit. Sweetish malty finish with hints of chocolate and dark fruit in the aftertaste.

Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 1/27/2008 Pittsburgh ratebeer.com gathering upstairs, Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever, I see a spread of bottles like I did there - ever again. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we sampled! For example, how about this beer, from yinzer. I am in debt to you Mark! A 1995 Samichlaus? Must have been a counterfeit! Just kidding. Chocolate liquorish aroma. Slightly darker than iced tea. Orange tinge on the eyeball. Smooth coating chocolate hints with no carbonation what so ever. I think I feel (not taste) raisins and other interesting fruits alcohol laced fruits. Drink this a shot glass at a time. I am not qualified to rate this beer. If you like good beers, and are a beer connoisseur, read the next guys rating! As far as doppels go; not as good as troeg’s or weltenburger. But better than st. victorious.

From Brewfiend. This is an unusual bock and the yeast reminds me of something from T’ IJ. Brown color. Aroma has light malt and yeast, just a little sour. And the flavor is similar. Sweet malt, fermenting fruit, and some sourness that doesn’t taste like an unintentional infection.
