Description
Scratch Brewing Company is a farmhouse brewery and restaurant located 5 miles from the beautiful Shawnee National Forest in Ava, Illinois. Started by three award-winning southern Illinois home brewers, Scratch Brewing Company focuses on farmhouse beers and other styles brewed with home grown and locally farmed and foraged ingredients. Beers are brewed in traditional styles and enhanced by the innovative addition of local ingredients, including nettle, elderberry, ginger, dandelion, maple sap, and a variety of wood additions, among others.

Bière de Garde from Scratch Brewing Company

Pour is a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is caramel and other burnt sugar notes. Flavor is a nice rich caramel malt with some candi covered dark fruit. Very rich and malty. A nice example of the style and the best thing about having a beer is having at the brewery amongst god’s country. Mine was 5.7% called persimmon biere de garde.

Draft from notes. Pours a cloudy dark copper. Aroma of roasty burnt malt and chili powder. Taste is light bitter. Chili spice and coffee. Interesting, but not super special.

Sample at scratch. From notes. Pours a medium amber. Aroma and taste are both slightly bitter but with no real defining character. Light caramel and slightly fruity on the finish. Drinkable, but not super special.

Draft at scratch. From notes. My version was 5.5%. Pours a clear light orange. Spicy herbal hops with loads of dried fruits. One of the better ones ive tried from here.

Draft at scratch. Pours dark gold. Aroma of dried ginger and tea leaves. Taste is medium sweet. Sweet green tea with honey. Meh, not really my style.

Draft. Pours a clear, light gold. Aroma is of slight citrus and a little belgian yeast. Taste is light tart. Not too bad. Very enjoyable on a hot day.
