Description
A small independent brewery based in Northern Ireland with a belief in simplicity and a knack for brewing pretty good beer.

Like many good ventures, Modest Beer was born in a parent’s garage in Holywood, County Down when Chris Morris, a tax accountant by day, brewed a small experimental batch of Kölsch for a friend’s restaurant. Within two years we moved to a much larger brewery in Randalstown. We never set out to brew the best beer in Northern Ireland, but maybe someday we will.

Can from KWM. Appearance - cloudy yellow to orange. Snow white, proportionate head. Nose - underripe melon, plant stalks. Lime pith. Taste - more plant stalks, resin and some pith again. Palate - light bodied, dry and slightly astringent with all the resin through the middle and finish. Overall - not one of their best.

440ml can as part of a delivery from KWM Wines. Drunk at home. Very light yellow, almost straw, clear with a proud white head. Light but very pleasant aroma of lemon zest, some sweet spice. Sweet taste with just a touch of bitterness at the end of the sip, with more lemon/lime lingering in the finish. Medium carbonation, oily mouthfeel. It's a subtle beer, very drinkable.

440ml can delivered from KWM Wines and drunk at home. Cloudy greenish yellow, with a large loose head. Melon, white grape, papaya on the aroma, with some suggestions of white grapefruit and sweet onion. It's sweet, but there's more balance in the taste than in many hoppy pales. Slight grape skin astringency in the finish, with lightly bitter hops resting on the tongue. Medium carbonation, body on the thin side. Understated and moreish.

330ml can from KWM Wines, drunk at home. Light yellow/gold, with a large white head. Melon, a little bit of lemongrass, pineapple in the aroma. Sweet taste with a big creamy tropical fruit note alongside a gentle bitterness. Short finish with a watery body, so that's a shame. Heavily carbonated. Certainly decent without being world-beating.
