Taster at the brewery - had to try this because I fucking love stroopwafels - jet black pour - nose and flavor of maple, caramel, vanilla, coffee - gets slightly cloying on the back end, tasting a little like Turkish coffee (which isn’t necessarily bad, just surprising) - good, but not stellar.

4 ounce at the brewery - this one suffers from the same problem as the orange chocolate - tons of particulate floating around - there’s a centimeter of sludge that has settled to the bottom of my 4 ounce taster - gritty mouthfeel - unfortunately, much like the orange chocolate, this really detracts from the otherwise great flavor of the beer - the cinnamon and pepper play off one another well, never getting overly spicy - chocolate through the middle - warm, grounding vanilla is an undercurrent throughout - genuinely great flavor - terrible look and texture.

Turbid brown pour with visible hunks of orange peel in it - looks like sludge - because of the particulate in it, the mouthfeel feels grainy/gritty - too bad, because it actually tastes really good - the bright orange works surprisingly well with the chocolate and the underlying coffee and roast flavors of the stout - I would literally need to pour this through cheese cloth to make the mouthfeel more enjoyable.

4 ounce at brewery - jet black pour - flavor is a well-integrated mixture of rich coffee and chocolate flavors and the whiskey - there’s a light alcohol burn and touches of oxidation adding a sherry-like quality way in the back - finish of warming whiskey - I dig it.

When they originally released this beer a year ago, I commented that it was too young, too hot, needed time to smooth out - Then it would be great - thankfully, this proves to be true, as this barrel aged version is much smoother - smooth vanilla, chocolate, oak, smoke, coffee - bourbon booziness is perhaps a little too apparent, but the fact that a 12 month bourbon aged version is smoother and better integrated than the original is nice to see.

8 ounce at the brewery - hazy dark amber - nose is heavy on the whiskey and oak, with mild oxidation - hard to tell the character of the base beer (like, I wouldn’t be able to guess what the style was) - flavor is also heavy of the whiskey and some papery oxidation character - watery in texture and thin in flavor outside of the whiskey and oxidation - some hints of the potentially rich maltiness of the base beer underneath - would like to try the non- barrel-treatment for comparison - this is meh.

Pint at the brewery - dark amber pour - the lager game here, for the most part, has gotten pretty strong as of late - this is another solid entry - rich nutty and bready maltiness, tempered through the middle by some grassy hop bitterness - finishing with a slight acidity to cut the rich malt character - lingering leafy, autumnal qualities - nice autumn patio beer!

Pint at the brewery - dark ruby/brown, nearly black - nicely dry and roasty, with underlying notes of coffee - chai spices are present but don’t overpower or overshadow the malt character - light and easy drinking while being robust enough for patio drinking in the cool Denver autumn - pretty nice.

Pint at the brewery - hazy orange - really heavy on the cinnamon, clove, andvanilla character - moderate underlying pumpkin - tastes like the inside of a Michael’s craft store - pass.
