This poured a very dark red colour (nearly black). Small tan head that went away fast. Caramel malt and honey in the aroma. The taste is quite pleasant, suprisingly enough Slovenian hops are evident, a bit faint, but they’re there giving it a fine bitterish/lemony background. The overall taste is ruined a bit by some weird meaty notes. Weak bitterish and "meaty" aftertaste. It’s a pretty good session beer, but not the greatest dunkel around. Initially "the third, and the most suprising, and the only good find in the Mercator in Zadar" (6/4/7/3/14), rerated in April 2007 in Zagreb.

The last of the three Union beers found in Mercator, and probably the best Slovenian beer I’ve tried. Had a huge white head that managed to look firm and fluffy (like a really dense white sponge, maybe. Head gets smaller at medium speed. Very nice gold going orange color that contrasts with the head, and plentiful lacing near the top. Looks different from most other "pale lagers". The smell isn’t that good. I cannot think of a proper word or a phrase to describe it, but "fruity socks" is the first thing that came to my mind. The taste is generally pleasant, fruity, hoppy, but somehow mild (Goldings ?). A touch of lemon. Slightly bitter aftertaste. And to my suprise some alcohol could be felt, just a tad, but it’s there. Not sure that the style is correct. I’d really go with Premium Lager. All in all, the best Slovenian regular lager I’ve tried.

This isn’t a pale lager, but obviously a low alcohol, so, if you’re reading this and able to fix this, please do. To the beer. Bottle bought in Mercator (a mall from a chain of malls originating from Slovenia). Not that bad for a low alc. Typical sickly sweet n/a malt aroma. Golden color, thick but quickly dissipating head. Extremely fizzy. Taste.....overly sweet malt, but not that disgusting. Slightly bitter. No aftertaste. This doesn’t taste at all like real beer, but in this case, I didn’t mind that much. But I think that there’s no point in importing this here. With the 0.0 limit, everyone that has to drive’s drinking Rally, which is even better than this, and has no alcohol at all.

Another more or less suprising find in Mercator. Yellow going gold color. Firm looking but very unstable head. There isn’t much of an aroma, but that’s good, because it stinks of boiled eggs. The taste is a little bit like lemon, and very, very slightly bitter. Very close to water. No aftertaste. Slovenian Corona. You can make something closely resembling this by squeezing a half of a rotten lemon in a glass of water, and pouring a drop of liquid from the "rotten eggs" stinkbomb. So bad that it’s funny, but after drinking it my smile quickly disappeared.

(Bottle, 50 cl) Clear, golden almost completely lacking head. Slight aroma of.... cardboard?, highly carbonated and a fairly high bitterness that lasts for quite a while. Plain pilsene/lager-type. 091104

Brought here from Slovenia by a radler-loving friend, so a thanks goes to him. Basically the same thing as Biker (from Pivovara Osijek), but a little less sweet and better balanced. It’s good for a radler, mostly because it isn’t offensive at all. The can says it has 2.5 alc%

Canned, 500ml. Pale golden colour, shaky white head. Weak and unpleasant aroma.Tastes basically like a good batch of Zlatorog, without its strange taste, and without skunk (was worried about this after drinking the Pils), and bit more bready. Some bitterness, and some metallic hints (expected, it was from a can). The "Symbol of Slovenian quality" sentence on the can stands - it’s as average as every other Slovenian beer I’ve tried.... well, maybe a bit better. It’s easy to drink, and would be good on some occasions.

Strange, nice looking but badly designed (for handling) 660 ml bottle. Yellow/golden pilsner, nice white head, same skunky stench as Zlatorog. Bready taste, with some metallic and fruity hints. Enough hops. Tastes more like a German, than a Czech pilsener. Overall, nothing special.

Lager color, mostly vanishing white head. Malty flavor - like in Baltic lagers - a bit corn-like. Medium-bodied, all malty with some late bitterness. Good.

Sweet malt aroma. Dark yellow color with good head. Flavor clean with just a hint of bitterness. A fair beer but nothing special.
