On draught at the Newport Ale House, IOW. very dark brown, only a tad tranlucent with a slight ring of off-white head. Purple grape and dark malt compliment a metallic and almost nutty aroma. The nutty notes come out very nicely in the taste: it's sweet and flavourful. Far too much carbonation. All in all a decent Schwarzbier.

Pour is a clear tan with a large white head. Aroma is almost nothing. Flavor is some toasted malt with a lingering sweetness on the tongue. The flavor was kind of there but there was absolutely no aroma. Probably way more true to the style than an Americanized version but this was pretty light all around.

Swing top bottle. The emphasis is on the malt, but cookie dough and just a dash of hops are also present. medium bodied, maybe even thicker. Agreable beer.

Swing top bottle. Roasted malt, coffee and just a touch of caramel in the flavor. Fairly dry with a good roast effect. Well made and well balanced.

Malty sweetish flavor with a soft hopbitter background. Malty cookie aroma. Herbal bitter aftertaste. Swing top bottle.
