Keg at Monkey Paw, 21/04/14. Clear golden amber with reddish hues and a moderate white covering that retains well. Nose is grapefruit, orange squash, light pine, bitter hops, straw. Taste comprises bitter grapefruit, pine, orange pith, light booze, bubblegum, candied orange peel. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close. Decent DIPA.

Nose is caramel, pine, perfumed tones, bitter grapefruit, candied orange peel, floral hops, orange squash. Taste is caramel malt forward, bubblegum, bitter orange, grapefruit, light booze fumes, tropicana. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close with a light streak of boozedom. Adequate DIPA.

Taste comprises bitter hop, pine resin, grapefruit, citric pithdom, grassy tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close. Solid enough IPA - just smelt a little odd - onions !

Keg at Monkey Paw, SD, 21/04/14. Hazed golden with a well appointed off white covering thar retains well. Nose is a little basic, citric peel, straw, orange, grass, lemon rind, light spice. Taste comprises bitter citric rind, spice, lemon peel, bitter orange, straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok drinkable saison, a little basic and lacking depth.

Keg at the taproom in SD, 21/04/14. Dark mahogany brown with a light tan covering that retains well. Nose is piney, tropicana, hoppy pangs, orange pith, light roasty tones. Taste carries a good dank hop presence, pine bite, citric peel, bitter grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi agressive hop bitterness in the last push. Solid CDA.

Backlog. On tap. Pours with a nitro appearing head, clear golden body. Aromas pretty much nail the name. Orange zest, lactose, creamy vanilla. Flavors sadly miss the target. Way overly bitter for the concept, but lots of vanilla, lactose, citrus (orange juice and zest). Creamy, nitro, medium bodied. Overall the balance is off making this a near miss.

Draft at the brewpub - San Diego. Pours dark brown with a creamy khaki head that leaves moderate lacing. Burnt malts in the nose, some dry cocoa and coffee grounds. Medium sweet flavor with bitter dark roast bitter coffee, torched wood, well roasted malts, dirt, baking cocoa. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Dry chocolate to finish, some warmth, bitter baking cocoa, earth, espresso, burnt wood. Nice complexity.

Draft at the brewpub - San Diego. Pours hazy gold with a creamy, off-white head. The aroma has spicy pine, jammy citrus, some dry orange rind. Medium sweet flavor with bready pale malts, bitter and spicy pine, ripe citrus, hints of marmalade, dried flowers. Medium to full bodied with fine, chewy carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, somewhat resinous, more pine, florals and rindy citrus. Pretty drinkable.

Medium sweet flavor with more spicy hops, dry pale malts, slight minerals, lemon peel. Medium bodied with average to lively carbonation. Dry to finish with spicy pine, pine needles, minerals, grapefruit pith, lemon rind. Fair.

Draft at the brewery - San Diego. Pours clear gold with a creamy, off-white head. Toasty pine in the nose, some dried orange, dry bread. Light sweet flavor with spicy pine, florals, dry toast, dirt. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Dry and dirty pine to finish with dried bread and flowers, orange rind. Not bad. Assertive bitterness here.
