Description
The Žatec (Saaz) region is famous worldwide for its unchallenged hops so it doesn't come as a surprise that brewing started way back in the Middle Ages. In 1261 the Society of Žatec Privileged Brewers was established. Close to the end of the 18th century, the Žatec breweries together were not able to cover the full market demand for beer so after 30 years of hesitation it was finally decided to build a new brewery in 1797 where brewing started in 1801. After the German occupation the brewery was nationalized. In 1995 reprivatisation took place and in 2014 the brewery was acquired by Carlsberg. Brewery closed in Spring 2022. A new microbrewery with new ownership started brewing, using its brands, in 2023.

Minimal off white head immediately disappeared leaving a light golden finely carbonated body. Fruity floral aroma with hay. Medium bodied, very soft on the palate, oily with a sharp tingly clean finish. Malt, fruity & sweet tastes with a bit of pepper in the finish. Refreshing if nothing else

500ml bottle provided by djoeye. A clear warm golden body under a patchy, white head. Fair lacing on the glass. Restrained mid-sweet pale malty nose. Grainy malty flavours with a buttery touch. Grain endnotes, mid-sweet. Okay with the sushi. Straightforward. (Shared with Finn, Tromsø 16.08.2018).
