Description
The Žatec (Saaz) region is famous worldwide for its unchallenged hops so it doesn't come as a surprise that brewing started way back in the Middle Ages. In 1261 the Society of Žatec Privileged Brewers was established. Close to the end of the 18th century, the Žatec breweries together were not able to cover the full market demand for beer so after 30 years of hesitation it was finally decided to build a new brewery in 1797 where brewing started in 1801. After the German occupation the brewery was nationalized. In 1995 reprivatisation took place and in 2014 the brewery was acquired by Carlsberg. Brewery closed in Spring 2022. A new microbrewery with new ownership started brewing, using its brands, in 2023.

Bottle, 5.1%. Clear dark golden colour. Big stable off-white head. The flavour starts off bready with a good mouthfeel. Has a distinct bitterness, slightly rough. A little vinous touch, in combination with the bitterness making the beer taste higher ABV than it really is.

At the II Cseh Sörfesztivál, shared with ogivlado. Guess this is it. Golden body, medium sized head. Grainy, worty nose, quite nice. The taste is bready with a distinct saaz note, pleasant and refreshing if simple.

Bottle. Pours with a large, foamy white head and a clear gold body. Aroma of corn, bread, light grass and hay. Taste is grass, bread, and metallic. Fizzy and dry. Slightly better than the run of the mill pils you get in bottles.
