July 2024 rerate:
Tap at Brauhund in Vienna (huge thanks Božo!). Misty golden body, thick white head. Floral hoppy, cleanly yeasty aroma, bit dusty and herbal. Floral-hoppy taste, lightly yeasty, cleanly malty and bitterish. Seems very fresh and the hoppiness was very much up front - I can totally get behind the recent high rates. When in this shape and form, this is an excellent macro lager, even though it's the least funky Zwickl you can imagine. 8/7/7/8/7
I've had it in bottle as well and it was primarily creamy and yeasty, with the floral hoppiness, but dialed and dulled down as well. 8/6/6/6/6.5. Consensus score in the end.

The same bottle as on pic, courtesy of ozujsko (thanks!). Medium sized fluffy white head that went away fast. Nice hazy pale orange colour. Light slightly skunky nose with notes of honey and malt. Light taste (again), tangerines, lemon and honey. A nice hoppy background. Too one dimensional. Nothing special, but far from bad. Still, I expected more from my first Zwickel. 6/5/6/4/7

(Bottle 33 cl) Pilsener golden with a nice, white head - that collapses rather fast though. Weak aroma of malt. Very thin-bodied and watery with some sweet malt and a rather crude bitterness in the finish. Some notes of cardboard. 260805

Can (BB 11/2005)
Typical lager-outlook: pale yellow, decent white head. Light nose: rubber and malts. Clean malty beer with some sweetness and bitterness but totally uninteresting. Propably good served ice cold in the hot summer day.

Nice hops/grain aroma. Crisp flavor - some bitterness and only slight malt flavor. Like most Austrian brews, not too strong - a good ski-brew.

Clear-gold; slim white head. Vanilla, sweet grain, faint hoparoma in the nose. First grain, then hopbitter, but very metallic. Bitter fades somewhat, leaving sticky sweet mouthfeel. Rest of texture is empty. Metallic taint remains in the aftertaste. Bweugh. Swill.
