22 oz. bottle from Wine Warehouse. Clear deep red pour with an, um, red head. Hoppy aroma with some grain characteristics. Very grainy taste with an odd fruity hop character. Medium body.

bottle - Pours deep gold and clear with a one finger slow fading head that laces well. The aroma is of floral hops, some grainy malt, and a hint of citrus. The flavor is moderately hopped with enough pale malt to balance it out. The result is a good, quaffable beer.

Weird red color, like it is going to be a fruit beer. Almost no aroma at all. Dry malt flavor, bitter actually from the malt. I don’t care that its red, but it isn’t very good anyway.

Bottle. Cherry red beer with a pinkish head. LIght malty, caramrl, mineral aroma. Hoppy for an octoberfest with some malt, caramel, spice, and earth. There’s a funny oily slickness to the mouthfeel. Malt lingers with a bit of fruitiness and some earth/spice.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese Place in (near) St. Louis, MO. Cherry red with a humongous pink head - now this really is freaky. Red dye #1 in my beer? Damn stuff even smells of red dye - pardon, of maraschino cherry. Near medium body with near creamy carbonation. Flavor is bitter noble hop over very light cherry and pale malt. This is bitter stuff, once your mind comes off the ceiling. Every sip is cherry sweet, but eventually it’s bitter as heck again. Served in a black mug it might pass as a normal and really good beer.

I had this beer on tap last year, and I remember thinking that it was god awful - however, I do tend to like their bottled products, so I figured I would give it another shot - yes, it is red - and that is quite off-putting - I know it’s a schmaltz beer, but even this is taking it too far - if the beer ain’t a kriek, it shouldn’t look like this - you need to close your eyes to rate every other aspect of the beer, because your brain just can’t get past the food coloring look - rather bland aroma, with an odd combination of hops that doesn’t quite work - a faint caramel maltiness as well - sweet malts are forward first, but a rather strong and unenjoyable bitterness surfaces fast (these hoppier coney island lagers tend to use sort of gross hop combinations - why?) - alcohol surfaces after that - overall, the aroma and flavor are rather boring, and not all that tasty - and, of course, once I actually open my eyes and drink this stuff, all I taste is red - remember the taste of fake blood and halloween make-up? - yup, that’s it.

500ml Bomber. Pours a super dyed-out red color...disturbingly artificial. If it’s not a cherry lambic you shouldn’t even think about making a beer this color. Someone call the Reinheinngesptot enforcers. I think the food dye actually interferes in a subtle way, giving the beer a chalky mouthfeel. Malty and mellow in some ways, making it at least drinkable. Hop balance muffled under the artificial taste. Big disappointment from Shmaltz.

Pours cherry red with pink head. WTF?? Malty aroma with some floral hops. Flavors of bitterness (not in a good hoppy way) and cough medicine. Medium body with average carbonation. I had a hard time drinking this one.

Pour is a bright red with a large pink head. Huh? Aroma is malty and not much else. Flavor is dry malts with a touch of hops and finishes with som breadyness. Nothing great and I hate gimmicks with the red food coloring to look like blood.

Pours amber into a stein. Off-white head quickly subsides to hug rim. Crisp with caramel from front to back. Dark caramel hop finish.
