December 2018 rerate: On tap at two Medvedgrad locations. Slightly hazy golden body, white head, maybe slightly off-white. Sweetish, slightly bready aroma, herbal noble hop hoppiness, slightly oily at times, maybe a touch of eggs/dust, but in the background, quite fine. White bread-like maltiness dominates the taste, vague eggy touch, but not much, herbal noble hoppiness well defined and integrated into the maltiness, minimal bitterness, quite clean. Medium-bodied heading towards light, well balanced with light carbonization helping bitterness. In good shape, this is a pretty good, smooth, drinkable beer, a classic lager that stands high above the industrial counterparts. Never thrilling, as it once might have been 10+ years ago at times, but serving its purpose well. 2016 rerate: Thanks to the Medvedgrad people. This was way overdue for a rerate. Misty golden body with a small white head. Light aroma, initially honey-like, moving onto vague flowery and later slightly eggy notes, soft really. The taste goes the same route. Very soft indeed, vague bready notes, again some honey and flowery notes, ending slightly herbal, with pretty much no bitterness. Very light eggy touch. Soft, drinkable, pleasant, almost too clean in the bottle. It’s a good lager, better than any macro lager here really, but not one of my favorite lagers ever anymore. 6/4/6/3/12 2005 rating: I’m completely with Gazza on this one. It isn’t like any Classic German Pilsener I had, but I really couln’t put it in any existing category... Unfiltered Dortmunder ? Zwickel/Keller/Landbier ? Yes, this was definitely unfiltered, a misty golden colour, but with not much head. Nose...lemony hops. Taste, hops, watermelon, full. A long, grassy aftertaste.......Great stuff. Unique even (for Croatia). 8/4/7/4/15

December 2018 (Ilica/Tkalča): A long, long overdue rerate... Tap at a couple of places, though, honestly, it's not like the bottles I've had recently differed much. Dark cola body - ruby heading towards black, quite hazy, with a creamy off-white head, small but lasting. Subdued aroma in all forms, creamy, touch of coffee, very light dark berry touches perhaps, a touch of dust, but only a little and when warmed. Too subdued. Light taste, fuller than the aroma would indicate, sweetish, yet dry, light walnut touches in the taste, traces of coffee, mild traces of yeast at times - neutral though. A drinkable, if quite subdued dark lager, without flaws, if without strong flavors, with maybe just a touch more yeastiness than it should have - but which doesn't detract. Drinkable, sessionable, which is its function anyway. Jul 9, 2005 review, back at the old brewpub I drank this after the mediocre Pšenično Pivo, and it restored my shaken faith in the brewpub. Dark/near black red, with a thick persistant head that left tons of lacing. The aroma was hard to detect, and I got mostly dust and a bit of malt. The taste is really pleasant and full - dried figs, liquorice and chocolate, with no detectable hops .I didn’t note the aftertaste. Good stuff. 4/5/7/4/15

December 2018 (Ilica/Tkalča) Huh... Dva klasa has always been the weakest link in the regular Medvedgrad portfolio, but it sold and it sells, so I don't see it changing soon enough. A darker, murky orange-amber body, thick, persistent white head. Sweetish aroma, wheat malt and red apple esters, very very light cloves at times, subdued. The taste is way too thin for the style now, but thankfully not as sulphury as it tended to be at times. Dry, chewed-up bubblegum, pefumey, some lemony notes, low carbo, red apple esters perhaps. Riiight... actually quite drinkable, without technical flaws, but missing all the things that make hefeweizens great in the taste. Too dry, thin, overattenuated, with an atypical ester/phenol profile. Can imagine it being sessionable, even appealing for some, but no thanks for me. 9.7.2005 brewpub rating: What a disappointment. Definitely not as good as the other Medvedgrad beers are. A couple of friends, who’re not that much into beer claimed that this was great. It damn wasn’t. I really hope it was just a bad batch. It was a darker brown/orange, just about as dark as the Paulaner Dunkelweizen I had. There was no head at all. The nose is all cloves and some bananas. Cloves own the taste... and it’s not that pleasant. Cloves are probably my least favorite weissbier taste, and they completely dominate the taste. The aftertaste is strange. My notes say burned bubblegum. I’ll try this again, but I don’t expect anything to change. 6/3/4/3/13

Dark hazelnut color, cappuchino head. Light hoppy aroma. Slightly roasted, hoppy mouthfeel. Oily aftertaste. Maybe "the easiest" to drink of Pivnica Medvedgrad beers.

Hazy ruby, offwhite medium-sized head. Light aroma, malts. Sweet malty backbone with strong saaz-hoppied palate. Hoppy aftertaste too.

Hazy orange, small white head. Sweet banana and wheat aroma. Very bitter, grape flavor. Strong bitter aftertaste. Interesting "different" weizen, more Belgium than German.
